Do we have to lose threads started by banned people?

    As the title really. I am currently playing Xenoblade and wanted to read through the associated thread on here. As the OP was banned (Fruit or Ecosse I think?) the thread has dissapeared along with the poster. Is there any chance of keeping threads like these when people are banned?

    Just seems a shame to lose long threads like this that may have some good discussion in.

    These people are usually banned for posting gay porn, obviously that means it's disproportionately Nintendo threads that go missing.

    It's not as simple as flicking a switch and turning this functionality back on or off, unfortunately.

    Well the entire purpose of banning them is to make their posts and threads disappear... After all what would be the point of banning a spammer if their "SEE GOOD $BOXING MATCH$$" threads aren't taken out with them?

    Well he was born, and then pretty much everything after that.

    He's back now under a different guise, because, despite him posting gay porn all over the forum, he whined and whined and whined enough to ven that he let him back.

    Well I was more thinking if it could work like when someone in a thread is banned who didn't start it. You still get the thread, there are just loads of gaps where the posts are missing.

    Or if threads could be reloaded at request. (eg Xenoblade or Uncharted 3. However that would probably require more work for the mods so would be a bad idea and lead to arguments over what is deserving of recovery and what is not.)

    Or simply two different levels of ban...One nukes someone out of the forum, threads and all, the other just blanks out all posts (much like deleted users now)...

    It happens with 'deleted user' threads already. Adopt AcidSnake's two tier system and just have it say 'banned user', simples.

    I expect that'll take 5 minutes and Craigy almost certainly doesn't have anything else to do so will get on it straight away ;)

    Please don't use the delete button, think of the children.

    Could you or Craigy maybe give us a brief description of how the data is stored? I can't think how I would structure a database or whatever, where you would have no choice but to completely delete content when you just wanted to delete/disable a user.

    Solution: don't be an insufferable cunt, then you won't be banned, and your threads won't disappear.

    I know this is difficult for a lot of people, but it's the best way to solve the issue I think.

    How about unbanning and the deleting the user's profile. That's almost literally flicking a switch on and off. The thread remains, the worthless twat is gone.

    Or here's a thought. Like the 'Deleted' user posts (example), how about adding 'Banned' one.

    I'm fed up with all the broken conversations in old threads as well as the vanishing threads shit.
