Looking 4ward to Utopia. Starts on Tuesday.
    http://utopia.channel4.com/

Could be brilliant. Nice to see some homegrown quality again. New set of Black Mirror coming too \o/

Press release overview - quite detailed about the start.

    Teaser info:
Dennis Kelly's enigmatic thriller Utopia centres around The Utopia Experiments, a legendary graphic novel shrouded in mystery. When a small group of previously unconnected people who have met on a forum, find themselves in possession of an original manuscript of the fabled book, their lives suddenly and brutally implode, relentlessly pursued by a shadowy unit called The Network who will stop at nothing, to keep its origin and meaning secret.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Channel 4's been doing a fair bit of decent homegrown drama recently. Personally I've enjoyed The Fear and Secret State recently. Will definitely be setting the timer for this one, cheers.

    I really liked The Fear.

This feels promising. Don't know much about it though.

No, definitely a wait and see one, this one (as is My Mad Fat Diary which I've been hearing good things about, though I suspect I'm a little too old for anything on e4). I wasn't too impressed with the trailers I've caught for this, but that write up has piqued my interest rather more.

It's also very handy these threads popping up less than a week before things start. Since I now record everything, I pretty much skip every ad break so don't see nearly as many trailers as I used to (and those I do are usually weeks out of date by the time I've got round to watching them).

Just caught the newer trailer for this. Good news Local, it's got Tyres from Spaced in it.

(Also, for similar reasons, see Down Terrace) (Twice).

Set your alarms people, it's on tonight at 10pm. Jesus, didn't realise it was going to be over an hour and a half long. That's gonna be quite the investment in time if all six episodes are that long!

In other news, I quite enjoyed My Mad Fat Diary last night. +1 from me.

Looks pretty intriguing. Going to have to watch it on 4od though as my aerials shagged.

On a side note that's good news about more black mirror.

Hmmm.... I feel like I'm missing something. Did it seem a bit disjointed or is that just me?

Loved it, can't wait for next weeks episode! I have to admit I only watched it because of this thread. The TV trailers did a terrible job of selling it.

    For the emperor!

Really liked it too. Especially the lack of spoonfeeding. Nice to have the suspense. Very brutal in part.Well shot too, reminds me of the first series of MisFits, and not just because of Curtis / Ian.

Wasn't expecting that early departure of the policemen.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Well, it certainly asked more questions than it answered, but it is the first episode of a series, so only as it should be. Worked for me, and I can't wait to see the next episode now.

It just felt like a series of scenes, and every time it cut I had to take a few moments to get the context of the story again. I think some of the revelations just threw me, I knows it's supposed to be about how easily people can be found and how quickly that can be exploited by the wrong people, even using aliases and pseudonyms to hide your identity, but people just turning up seemingly out of the blue from one scene to the next was a bit disorientating. It seemed to lack the passage of time, when actually sometimes days had passed between scenes. One instance, for example, was that both my partner and I thought what happened in the comic shop was a later scene and the episode was building upto that.

I also don't think it helped that a lot of scenes had those dub-step/electronic backing tracks over them, I found that really distracting and had trouble concentrating the plot or what was being said.

Still maybe it'll become clearer over the next couple of weeks.

It was ok. Very Channel Four. I didn't think much of the acting though, it all felt a bit amateurish.

My Pap/Meh/Good scale was swinging wildly between Meh and Good with the occasional lurch into the Pap zone (pretty much whenever a Channel 4 face [Michael Smiley, etc] appeared).

While the storyline seems like it might be interesting Ė and some of the cinematography was pretty good Ė Iím concerned that itís leaning too heavily on its Channel 4 heritage. I was getting a distinctly Spaced vibe from the characters and direction (especially the harsh cuts), while itís whole ascetic is a little too Misfits for my liking (dark urban background with literally colourful looking characters pasted on top).

Iím worried theyíll put in too many twists and the story will turn out stupid, or that theyíll throw in too much comedy and ruin the balance, but it wasnít a terrible start to a series at all really. Iíll certainly watch it next week.

I enjoyed it, i'll definitely be watching it again next week.
I do agree that the story seemed to be a bit haphazard and the acting wasn't all that but it was decent and nothing put me off.

    Typical Channel 4 oddness really.

    Nope.
It's quite unrelenting and has an oppressive feel at times. I'm quite impressed that it's turning out so well. I'm definitely intrigued and will be watching til the end.

I was expecting more when they had a warning half way through!

I don;'t generally like violent murder as light entertainment but am quite enjoying this.

Is this actually good, or just 'well it's way better than anything else on british telly right now' good?

Any Netflix library in the world for a couple of quid a month? Gimme!
