I sold a graphics card but its been returned back to me faulty, I can't work out whats wrong with it. The PC starts no problem, the cards shows in GPUZ and I even ran some benchmarks using MSI and Furmark and it causes no problems. The problem is when I start any game the system crashes almost instantly, screen goes black monitor turns off and PC is unresponsive, what is going on?

@X201 Under load on Furmark its reading 65c which is good, its just when I start a game the logo screen appears and then the PC crashes.

Sounds like you need a more powerful power supply.

Dust on the fans has increased power draw from the PSU.

Nah, the only thing I can think of is the dude on the other end tried to softmod it.
    It was a 6950 right?

Wait doesn't the 6950 have a dual BIOS? Check for a switch.

I'm beginning to think you're in love with vizzini and that these threads are to entice him. Just PM him your mobile# and be done with.

Also, you've had a thread full of warnings about power-usage and you go running furmark? You want vizzini badly. You're begging for him.

There is nothing wrong with the power supply there never was, and what are you talking about? Some guy messed my card up won't admit it and I'm trying to find a way to fix it. Then you and Dirtbag come along and start giving me shit, I came here expecting some help and instead I get the two Ronnies.

Just tell him it worked perfectly when you sent it, you know he's fucked about with it, you're keeping the money and he can suck your balls.

There's got to be a way to read out the current firmware.
Google 6950 softmod and see what you can find.

The vizzini bit was quite obviously a joke, but maybe vizzini's advice is entirely appropriate for you.

The furmark bit was serious. You said you were running Prime95 in the other thread too. Ever run them both at the same time? I wonder if your problems are self-inflicted, and you're wasting other people's time.

@Bremenacht Are you feeling ok? If you read what I wrote you would know this had nothing to do with me. I ran those programs to test the card to see if it was working, because as I stated no game will start with this graphics card.

When I say "hey dirtbags!" that means you.

    Great movie.

Give yourself ½ gig or a £, you're worth it.

You've plugged the extra power into the GPU right?

Hi chaps - I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love PCs but I'm bloody useless at fixing/upgrading etc.

I'm currently trying to help set up a computer for a local charity shop. The computer itself was a donation - Windows XP (with the disc) and all freshly installed.

I simply swapped over desktops, as their old one had gone wrong - but I can not get any kind of internet connection - even though I've got it connected in exactly the same way as the old machine (ethernet).

I'm guessing it's a problem with the drivers - but there are no bloody driver discs. Unfortunately, no internet connection means that I can not go online to download/update.

    Any ideas?

Does the Ethernet box limit access to certain ip/mac addresses?

If the network card is seperate to the motherboard it may need drivers, if there's an Ethernet port in the motherboard try that! I can't imagine it wouldn't be motherboard but worth a check

Cheers, Rob - it's a fairly old PC but then so was the one that they had been using.

Look for the network card in Device Manager.

You could do an ipconfig /all from a DOS prompt. That might give some clues as to what's happening.

If you can boot the old machine, have a look to see if it has the IP set to manual. If so, just copy the info on the new box.a
