According to the EG article OpCapita stand to make 50m by closing and stripping Comet.

    Fucking sickening.

First proper job I ever has was at Comet.

When was the last time you bought anything from Comet?

    Shut up then ;)

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I wonder if the store staff will receive all of the pay due to them. It always fills me with rage when I hear about workers losing pay in situations such as this.

@LeoliansBro not saying it wasn't a store that had lost its way, but how come OpCapita can make 50m by making thousands redundant, seems grossly unfair.

I thought a Tory government was supposed to promote business, well this clearly is promoting closing.

@thelzdking if OpCapita make a single penny before all staff and suppliers are paid it is absolutely disgusting.

If you employ a cleaner, and then sell your house, is it fair that the cleaner is now redundant? Are you going to share some of the money from the sale with the cleaner?

LB, you really are a massive geek.

All reports confirm that 2.1m of holiday and back pay owed to staff will be paid in full.

The EG article is hugely misleading: "the 50 million OpCapita stands to make from Comet's decline will be paid for largely by UK taxes."? Literally untrue.

Comet is a dump, always felt like a poundland in there

    Good riddance

Dunno why EG are even reporting about Comet. Even several years ago they didn't give a shit about games, relegating them to a small corner where you could only buy two-year old Fifas and shovelware shit.

It's to prepare for the same thing happening to GAME some time next year.

    This space left intentionally blank.

Here's hoping, hopefully JD Sports, Currys and HMV go down the shitter too

@meme they never knew what to do with games. They got big on them in the Amiga era, then beer could decide.

During Dreamcast/ps2 they tried to do more including having demo pods, but managers would always turn them off to stop kids hanging round the stores.

Their inability to price games is no different to Currys etc

Fuck em. Wank for games and pretty much anything else.

    Hence oblivion.

Although I think it's sad that Comet is closing, I can't remember the last time I was in one of their stores and I doubt many people on these forums complaining about a recognized high street name going out of business can remember either.

I don't think I've ever bought anything from comet since the time I bought an Amiga that went wrong. When the chap came to fix it, he told me it had been repaired before... Never bought anything from them again.

I think it was Comet anyway. May well have been some other faceless, identikit box shifter.

Shit analogy, the cleaner in that situation would still be entitled to pay for any work they had done.

If the cleaner had helped me sell some un-needed furniture and I'd profited from the sale of the house then I might even give them a tip considering they'd soon be out of a job.

Heh, pre-ordered my PS2 from Comet 12 years ago - still have the pre-order letter!

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I enjoy walking up the high street watching the sun shining through cheap black leggings and revealing the tatty chav panties that lie beneath.

I don't - It was different when chav birds used to look after themselves a bit (or was that starvation?) but now they are all lardy arsed walking blobs of fat it's not so interesting checking out their backsides.
