I picked this up on a whim, and I'm rather enjoying it. I like the graphical style and the surviving element of the game. Steam page. At the moment this game is in an alpha stage of development. So there will be updates until it goes full retail in March. However, it is on offer at the moment at 20% off and you get a second copy to give away to a friend.

    Gameplay video.

I have a couple of tips to make hunting birds and rabbits easier. You just need to make common traps for the rabbits.

Rabbits: Place traps near rabbit holes to stop them running away. Once caught, drop them and they will be sleeping. so you can hack them up into morsels.

Birds: Gather seeds and place them on the floor, but do not move. A bird will land (briefly) allowing you to hack these into morsels.

Its a rougelike game, similar to Dungeons of Dredmor. If that's not your thing, then fair enough.

@Shikasama That's why its called "Don't starve"!

Well it does start off slowly. But all is not lost if you die because anything you unlock with intelligence points carries over on your next playthrough.

It's a great little game, regularly updated. If you have even an ounce of explorer in your soul, it will eat hours of your life.

I totally agree, brilliant little game. Oh, if you want a ton of research points just dig at a grave and use the stuff you get from them to put in the science machine.

Also, that tip I posted about the birds doesn't work as much. I am finding that 1 in 5 swings of an axe nets you a morsel. So it wold be faster to make and lay some bird traps.

It seems utterly mind numbing, unless I'm missing something

Think it's rather great. It's a concept I wanted to see realised for literally decades. Lost in Blue was a bit like it, on the DS.

@UncleLou Have you tried Survival Minecraft? Similar to this but much, much deeper.

I have a spare copy of this, free to a good home - preferably someone who really wants to play it, rather than a tourist.

I wouldn't say no if it's still available, I was only playing the beta in Chrome at lunchtime.

Ooh. Had a shock when I went grave-robbing earlier!

And I found something called an eye bone today. What it does...>As long as you keep it in your inventory, a walking chest follows you around. It even sleeps at night! :D

I'm really wanting this but I have so many games on at the moment it's a bit insane to buy it, but i'll take a second beta key if any are going.

@Lexx87 Why not chip in with Gl3n? Definitely worth a fiver.

Panda flogged me his spare copy yesterday :)

It's a great game and quite stable for a beta.

Why not pair up with Lexx87 and split the cost?

Me? I'm in no rush (Lexx got it earlier). I have somewhere in the order of 120 games in my purchased backlog and I'll likely never have time to play it anyway.

Cool! Looks like the story progression is creeping in too, which is what I'm really looking forward to in the final release. I want an overriding goal to aim for.
