Hopefully it will convince more of you to come play DOTA 2. I may be able to acquire a few Beta passes if anybody is interested.

Cheers for the games (and education) last night, Larry. I'm far more impressed with the game now. :)

I used my first warrior last night - Beregond.

At first I thought he was crap, but then I specced my belt for max melee (basic) damage, and went to town on Legolas. It was funny, that dumb elf was mashed in seconds.

I really, really like how different the characters feel: Wulfrun, for instance. A defender, but totally different to Eowyn, who I still prefer even though Wulfrun is perhaps an easier mob to play as.

tried the demo but I have no idea what I'm doing and I've never played a game like this before. I seem to get frozen and oblitorated when I get in range of the other guardians. I'm playing one lane solo but can't seem to get anywhere... are there good tips anywhere to help a novice?

I reckon a warrior is a good bet: high health and some good basic damage. It's about knowing when to strike, when to hold back, and combining attacks with chums.

I really enjoyed last night, and I've begun to recognise why I'm dying, in terms of "I was rooted/taunted/silenced" rather than just "I saw something colourful, then died."

I just like moaning if I am playing online multiplayer. It means that I am enjoying it.

If I am quiet that is a bad sign - means I must be bored.
  • Deleted user 13 December 2012 12:08:11
Agaundaur in one lane is a sign that someone has no penis. Well, for the other team anyway.

Uncovered some more good characters: Gothmog, and Ugluk - the latter I've built for crit, and is nuts.
  • Deleted user 13 December 2012 21:35:52
Sorry I disappeared guys, gf back and stuff, and was bored of searching.

Matchmaking is retarded for (some) groups, I hope the patch sorts it.

Funnily enough it went into a game as soon as you left. We just won :)

Well I am pleased you had a good time!

I'd also played a little bit too much today, feeling a bit square eyed...!

Always up for more, obv - this is taking over all my gaming time atm, so happy for invites etc.

This is getting some advertising now on the games tab too. Lots of videos!

New patch tomorrow, new map. Hope it fixes matchmaking for parties.
  • Deleted user 14 December 2012 11:10:11
Continuing the theme of awful voice acting (other than Gollum):

    http://www.guardiansofmiddleearth.com/blog/2012/12/11/bilbo-baggins-and-bert-the-troll-are-almost-here

Glimpse of new map - looks so different, is pleasing. I know it's only about aesthetic in MOBA, but the tonal difference is really nice.

I haven't been this fixated on a game for ages. I keep thinking about belts and things. It's retarded.

compatibility pack is now up (200MB) includes the new map (and hopefully a matchmaking fix)

    here you go...
  • Deleted user 14 December 2012 15:47:07
Iherd that actually the fix was coming 'a few days after the 14th' or something. But I am not clear on it. If you get a TU when loading up, that'd suggest it's patched.

Workaround for matchmaking fiasco: Elite Battlegrounds.

Because it waits for 10 human players before even starting the countdown, you are guaranteed time to prepare. Also, it seems to pay far more attention to your party, and last night included us all, all of the time.

It's not any harder than normal either - necessarily, anyway. It's better in fact: all human, no AI. Lag wasn't an issue either.

Will give elite a try tonight then mate.
  • Deleted user 15 December 2012 13:00:04
Probably worse wait times though. Depends on time of day; same for lag.

I'm perusing the official forums and, as ever, there's people acting as though the game is a sainted angel sent to Earth to solve the world's ills, and those who act as though it just raped their mother.

Perspective is in short supply, apparently.

Downloaded the demo, had no idea what was going on but I think I like it.

I've 1200 points in my account too. Really shouldn't as I haven't even started the SP in Halo 4. Hmmmm.
  • Deleted user 15 December 2012 16:20:11
Simp was excited by it. Sorry.

    Hehe.

Having downloaded the demo some time ago, I thought I should really give it a go, especially after glo and MrTom were talking about it in our party last night, and despite my light-hearted mockery of the lore, once I played it I realised that ...deep breath... it's exactly the kind of stat-laden, tactical/strategic stuff that I love. I can imagine it takes on all kinds of combinations of characters and skills in increasingly confusing strategies, and I like the idea of that.

If what the EG review says about it, in relation to PC MOBAs is true, that GoM-e is slow, slow, slow, then I'm glad I haven't got a PC that plays games, because my days of playing anything faster than this are, I fear, long behind me.

I am wrestling with myself about buying it though - I bought those points ready for the festive XBLA sales, and buying new and shiny things with it means it will take up time I should be using to play Iron Brigade and Rise of the Martian Bear.

On the other hand, now would seem to be the ideal time to play it, while other people still are, rather than when the inevitable sale comes about and everyone is playing, er, Shadow Complex 2, or something.

Maybe I'll get drunk and absolve myself of the responsibility.

Fuck it, feeling slightly giddy after our first win of the season so I've just bought it.

I'll be playing it for a long while to come, I think.

I haven't downloaded it as I absolutely HATED DOTA2, but having read the review I like the fact there is no buying stuff mid-game - I really didn't like that at all in DOTA2. That, plus the LOTR setting, makes me think it's worth a go.
