Yup, its that time again, only three and a bit weeks left of 2012. We've had some great games this year, the majority of them coming out in the last fucking month or so too.
I'll list a couple of the big hitters below, but obviously there are loads more :

    - Mass Effect 3
    - The Walking Dead
    - Journey
    - Dishonoured
    - Borderlands 2
    - FIFA 13
    - Trials Evolution
    - XCOM : Enemy Unknown
    - Far Cry 3
    - Halo 4
    - Max Payne 3
    - Assassins Creed III
    - Call of Duty : Black Ops II
    - NFS : Most Wanted
    - Sleeping Dogs

Personally, i've played every game on that list and my vote is going to Far Cry 3. I havent even finished it yet but its the first game this year that i have genuinely struggled to stop playing once i start.

    Whats your GOTY for 2012?

I'm thinking it may be FarCry 3 but it's too early to tell. I'll be back.

Journey is a very good shout.

Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne, and Far Cry up there too (although I'm only about an hour in to this, it is stunning). I'd feel dirty saying FIFA, although I love it.

It makes me sad that Hitman: Absolution doesn't deserve to be in that list.

I am still enjoying it, but it isn't GOTY worthy. :(

Yeah, but it's a spin-off that's aimed at kids. So I'm not really interested in it.

Diablo 3 (yes, really). It's not perfect, but that didn't keep me from playing (and enjoying it) more than any other game this year.

Closely followed by Dragon's Dogma, my suprise hit of the year.

I refuse to partake in this silliness.

P.S. Transport Tycoon is a good shout.

This is harder than you'd think.

Xcom is fantastic to play and I love the fact that it exists.

Sleeping Dogs was awesome, I loved it all the way through.

Sonic All Stars Transformed is taking up quite a bit of my gaming time at the moment because it is just a joy to play.

Trials evo is also on my list, because, you know... Trials.

Hard choice, been a great year. Far Cry 3, Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs were all very good, and I should probably mention Xen Pinball 2 on the Vita for time spent playing, but end of the day I'm going with Mass Effect 3. I know the end was a bit naff, for me the game ended with 2 mates on a Spaceship, but up till then I loved it. Only thing that disappointed me otherwise was not enough of Miranda's arse, but it's rare that you can have a game carry through like that through 3 seperate entities and still be so coherent. Not a lot of true trilogys where choices you made in the first part carrys through. And I loved the depressingness of it all, and the brave choice to have such a grim ending. It's probably the last grasp of a once great developer.

X-Com for me, out of those that I've played.
Dishonoured will probably take the second slot

I really must give Far Cry a spin one of these days.

Sleeping Dogs or Mass Effect 3. Just started playing FC 3 so that might change.

Special mention for Rocksmith, but that is more of a Guitar tool than game, but still it is fookin great.

The most fun I have had with gaming this year, is the same as last year, Horde mode in Gears 2 and Gears 3.

With some games you just "know" you're playing something that ticks all the boxes for your play style and what you really like in a gaming experience.

Whilst it's early days, it has to be Far Cry 3 for me - haven't played a game that made me want to keep going into the wee hours for bloody ages.

Notable second place goes to Borderlands 2, great fun.

Mass Effect 3 for me too. As a huge Babylon 5 fan, for me the trilogy was essentially a playable, darker, version of that series. And the ending provoked lots of discussion which you don't normally get with a game.

FWIW i loved the ending, the whole series was great sci fi for me. I really felt i got to know all the characters and had my favourites, and enjoyed the mini stories and shooting dynamics.

Journey, ZombiU and Xcom in the mix so far. Likely to be Xcom, unless Far Cry 3 on Xmas day can provide a challenge.

It's cheating a bit but Dark Souls PTD edition!
I think so anyway, as I'll receive it at Christmas, but just the base game deserves two GOTY in a row from me...
Otherwise I honestly can't remember a game that blew me away this year...Mainly because I can't remember the releases...

List is lacking two of my own top 5 - namely FEZ and Spec Ops The Line.

The other places on my top 5 are for The Walking Dead, Borderlands 2 and Halo 4.

Borderlands 2 for me although I'm yet to play through Dishonoured, Sleeping Dogs and Far Cry 3, all of which sound like strong contenders.
