There's one thing I don't like about Pikmin 3. The Gamepad controls. I just reached the first boss and struggled to keep up. Moving and aiming at the same time isn't easy. It's killed off my interest in it for now. Will try the Wii remote and nun-chuck option next time.
Wiimote and Nunchuck with gamepad for map works a treat.

And you can still use the Gamepad as a map propped on your knees or using the otherwise totally useless Gamepad stand.

After I made that post I had to go back and give it a try. It's immediately a much more logical control method. I can imagine not all folk can find somewhere to prop up the Gamepad whilst playing, but it is definitely the best way to play.

I played with the wiimote and I couldn't imagine playing the game any other way. It's far more accurate and more enjoyable as a result.

It's still a bit of a shame they couldn't get the Gamepad controls right. What's wrong with using both analog sticks for movement and aiming? Still, even if they had got it right, it wouldn't be as fast as pointing.

Didnt like the gamepad controls either, i honestly thought that in the gamecube versions you could aim without moving? Anyway with the nunchuck and wiimote along with the gamepad its awesome combo.

I've no doubt the wiimote is the better option, yet I completed the game completely on the gamepad without ever thinking it was poor. I thought it was grand.

That's kinda how I want to play it. I thought i'd got to grips with it, but when I made it to that first boss, I couldn't keep up with the action. I'm trying to lead so many Pikmin out of danger, whilst trying to round up those who'd stopped, and just couldn't do it. I think I lost nearly 40 pikmin before destroying that thing.

On my second attempt though, with the Wii remote, I didn't lose a single one. It really makes a difference having independent aiming. At least for me.

I've been using the gamepad and think it's fine. That said, I lost almost all of my Pikmin on the first boss and had to spend days building them up again. I may have been able to save them using wiimote. I didn't realise that you can choose the colour of new Pikmin so it took me 3 or 4 days to break through various crystals with a solitary rock Pikmin smashing them down from sunrise to sunset :D That caused me to run my fruits right down and I was really in trouble. Cleared the next 2 bosses without too much trouble.

Once I switched to wiimote + chuck I never went back. You can even play off-TV if you can place the gamepad against something :)

For those of you still playing Mission Mode, there are 3 new maps up for sale today!

Edit - That's 6 new missions, 3 of which may be new maps. I've yet to look, but that's because Wii Sports Club came out.

Yay! Also, I tried wiimote and nunchuck combination and it's ace. Obviously I completed it with the gamepad so that's feasible and I never felt hampered but yeah, wiimote and nunchuck rock in this game.

I don't know why, but I just couldn't hack the Gamepad. I thought I could, but as soon as it came to that first boss battle, I got quite frustrated. Having to run out of the way and aim is something you just can't do with the Gamepad, for some reason. Perhaps you don't need to, but I really felt like I needed to. Glad the Wii remote offered that alternative. A perfect control set up.

It was a bit frustrating but I can't get into using Wiimote and Nunchuk with Off TV. Still managed to complete it without it hampering things. Great, great game.

How are people getting on with Mission mode? I've only just completed the original set of missions. The fruit collecting ones are fun, but hitting platinum on a few of them is going to be as tough as coconuts!

I've learnt that in the battle missions, you don't have to worry all too much about taking defeated creatures back to the onion. As long as you've got a good 20 or so Pikmin, you should be fine to just push on with fighting more creatures.

Having recently bought the first Pikmin on wii for £5 from my local Asda, I'm looking for more pikmin goodness. Ordered 3 from amazon today. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get a copy of pikmin 2 fairly cheap to complete the set?

Your best bet is probably second hand in CEX or something. Otherwise it's £199 from these crazy fools on Amazon.

Pikmin 3 was fantastic, just finished it. Never even tried controlling with the gamepad as the wii remotes work so well. Pretty sure this is the best game on wii U.

On day 5 just running around trying to find things now, it sure is charming and just a lovely experience (for the most part, losing a pikmin trounces Aeris' death imo).

Gamepad can be quite a struggle sometimes but I can't be bothered digging the ole wiimotes out, although I guess I should sooner than later seeing as other games take advantage of them, and I've been meaning to play Skyward Sword.

Damn that sorcerer! Twenty gold pieces and Iím wankered on Rohypnol.

If what you bastards say about the wiimote and nunchuk is true, I will go back to Day 4 or so and see if I can't make it through without losing ANY pikmin. ^-^ That will completely quash all of my control complaints. I hate to see a pikmin die.

(/hushed whispers/ Still think the game brings nothing new to the table though...)

It doesn't, but levels are designed so well and it looks so nice that it does elevate it above the average sequel. It's a great game.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game. Looks lovely, it has fucking pikmin in it, that's a win right there. I don't wanna be this negative cunt you see before you. But, ya know...

My expectations were so high. -_-

    I'm a bit stuck.

I can't seem to withdraw yellow Pikmin from the yellow onion.

    How come?

You can only have a maximum of 100 in play at one time, maybe you've reached that limit and have to put back some others.
