Quick question, is there no way to freely commandeer your Pikmin group like you could in past games? I seem to remember using the C-Stick on the GC to command them into lines, to swarm ect?

You can't make them walk in lines anymore but if you lock on you can make all your pikmin charge. I'm using the wiimote and nunchuck and you lock on with 'Z' whilst aiming at it and then you shake the nunchuk to make them charge. I don't know what it is for the gamepad. I use the charge to make sure all my fastest pikmin take the fruit or whatever back as well.

I am still really enjoying this but I do have one complaint. Why is there not a seperate button to chuck the bombs? It took me about 8 attempts at one day yesterday because I kept forgetting I had bombs in my squad and would chuck them right in the middle of all my pikmin. You should have to detonate them seperately or something. Other than that though, everything seems pretty much perfect!

Yikes. First boss took down a fair chunk of my squad.

    Lessons learnt for next time!

Never played a pikmin game so forgive my ignorance. Looking at footage it seems similar to little kings story in terms of combat. Is this the case or not at all. Lol.

Still got a fair few 3DS games to play before I get this.

This is invaluble information, Im also using the Wiimote/Nunchuck and never knew about the charge, thank you very much!

My Gamepad doesn't lay dormant though, I keep it in the cradle and use at the start of each day to scout the environment and plot my course of action. I then return it again at the days end to scour for any stray Pikmin.

As for the game itself, it has left an indelible smile upon my face, what a little charmer :)

game pad also allows you to switch between your groups when you split them up. I havent seen a way to do that on the wiimote/nunchuck combo without it.

Also impressed with how much better the motion plus is over the original wiimote when you use it as a pointer.

Not having any trouble with gamepad only so far.  Dunno how to charge but havent needed it yet.  Now have yellow pikmin!

Have lost a good few pikmin.  Once through stupidity and once because the stupid buggers didnt take the expected path and blocked themselves where I couldnt whistle them back.  Thought about restarting that day but said sod it :)

Having now beaten the first boss but taken casualties, it seems to me that you can't complete this game without losing some Pikmin.

Anyone managed to keep them all alive so far ?

I lost a fair few in my first snow day, beetle had its wicked way with them.

Death count is now 47 i dont have the brain capacity to name them now, they are just numbers in a long pikmin holocaust procession.

I'm wondering how long I can keep up my "No one gets left behind!" way of playing... Redid day-2 about 5 times yesterday because:
    a) I was too tired, so kept messing up
    b) I wanted to get all the fruit I had found
    c) Didn't want to loose any Pikmin
On day 3 I ran into the first boss but then I quit due to point a) above :)

Today my oldest son (9) managed to beat that boss on the 2nd attempt (on the first attempt he ran out of time) without loosing any Pikmin (me = impressed :D). So now I know what I have to do... ;)

Well, it's good discipline, but I wouldn't worry about it much. You can always get more Pikmin, and you've got plenty of time in this game, I think.. (there's no time limit is there?)

Enjoying reading this btw, especially from those who haven't played it before. Glad no-one's disappointed, so far.

This is an exquisite game. The joys of discovering new fruits or items is stopping me from putting the pad down. Also love how new mechanics are constantly introduced such as the nectar and pikmin colour swapping plants. Pacing is perfect as is the openness of it all.

A masterclass in games design, I expected nothing less from Miyamoto.

The "-" button lets you cycle between squad members when you split them up.

I don't know if Motion Plus makes much difference because the game can be played with a regular old standard Wiimote.

To charge with the Gamepad you lock onto an object/enemy with "ZL" then press "B" to dismiss your Pikmin.

Has anyone else noticed that you can use Wiimote and Nunchuck controls while playing offscreen solely on the Gamepad.

You only have the daily time limit I think, but when you run out of food it's game over (at least that's what my kids told me :)). Every day you consume one container of food. Hence me redoing day two, to build up a buffer for the next days. I know I will loose Pikmins later on (:() and there's plenty more to be found, but right now I'm just in denial that that will happen ;)

Shouldn't that have been ' Its lose' rather than 'it's lose'?

No. It's is a contraction of "it is". Its is a possessive pronoun.

Finally sat down to play this tonight and judging by the small time I've played (two days) it's absolutely lush.

It feels so well crafted and it looks, sounds and plays immaculately. Bravo.

A few gems like this and the Wii U may be okay.

Oh right. Fair enough. It just didn't seem that way. You seemed genuinely upset about it.
