Thought the second one was excellent. Much better replay value. MP was short and very sweet.

    New quotes from Miyamoto :

"In the case of Pikmin 3, we've taken an approach with that game where we really want to take what made the original Pikmin game unique and really simply go deeper with that experience.

And so what we've done is by taking advantage of the GamePad--the second screen there--and the HD graphics that are capable with Wii U and the higher processor--we've really been able to take that original Pikmin experience and do something that is much deeper and more fleshed out this time around.

...When I create a game, I don't necessarily always try to approach it from the idea of leveraging every feature or every ability of that new piece of hardware. In the case of Pikmin in particular, the approach that we took was really less of an approach of how can we [] take advantage of what the Wii U is doing, per se, and instead how can we take what was that Pikmin experience and really make it a deeper experience for players.

So of course we're taking advantage of the graphics and improving the play control and whatnot and I guess if you were to look at it more broadly, you might not necessarily say that it would be impossible to do it on another system. But I guess speaking plainly, the idea is really that Wii U is the best system to be able to achieve all of the different things that we're trying to do with this new Pikmin game. One of the biggest features of Pikmin 3 is the fact that you have the map on the GamePad at all times and because Pikmin is a strategy game, it's the type of game that you might play the same levels over and over again. Having that map--and the fact that you have the three different leaders that you switch between to command your Pikmin--and having the touchscreen on the map will allow you to change perspective or jump to a specific leader and quickly give orders. It makes it much more efficient for you to achieve the goals that you have strategically within the game.

Thanks to my nephew buying one I can now play Pikmin 3 and not fill myself with rage that I've bought a console for only a handful of games again. :D

That's for North America. Still no confirmed Euro date. And this is a "launch window" title that started life as a Wii game. Mind you, is not like there's a shortage of software on the system.

How come every publisher other than Nintendo can manage simultaneous worldwide launches?

Nintendo have done plenty of worldwide launches, it'll probably be between the two US and Japan dates.

    Wow, feels really far away.

Could really do with dates for Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 and Game and Wario in the mean time because the next few months are looking pretty barren.

If I wasn't so into Monster Hunter right now I might have been upset.

The screens look quite nice but some ground textures look great, others look crap.
It should be nice and polished after all the delays.

I think the crap ones you're looking at are actually water surfaces, which'd explain it. I think it look fantastic.

In these shots I'm mostly referring to the final pic with it's blurry ground textures.

Is that not water too? Hard to tell. Seems to have the same quality as the water in the 2nd pic.

What's the skinny with pikmin? It kinda looks like a cutesy version of command and conquer. Is that the case or am I way off?

This is officially the main reason I'd even consider a WiiU.

That, and a new Metroid Prime which uses the pad screen for visors.

He's right in some ways, though. That lily-pad looks like PS2 graphics, while the rest look straight from a photograph.

I think aside from a few warts, it looks incredible!

Umm. Not far off. Control is a little bit similar. More puzzley. No development at all, just pick the right Pikmin for the job at hand against a time limit. Very simple. 1 has strict time limits and can be a bit tricky. 2 is bigger and offers more gameplay options, but time limits are much less of an issue.

It's not remotely as boring as that sounds. It's a unique gaming experience.

Woh! See the circuit-forming at 1:40? That's very new.

Aside from that and the control and camera improvements (and the flying Pikmin), it looks like more of the same. No bad thing, but nothing to make someone who doesn't already own a U to rush out an buy one.

Is this going to have online play then?

i don't think so, they said this last year:

"In the situation of Pikmin, for example, since you would have lots of individual, small creatures, the Pikmin, whose every movement and location is going to be really important in the game, it would be very difficult to sync up over an internet connection," Nintendo design lead Shigeru Miyamoto told IGN in a recent interview
