Amazing game. Whereas this to me, feels like sonic...as if you have to finish the levels in triple time. It doesn't sit well with me, nor the momentum.

This is a really short game
To get to the last level yes, that still took me 9 odd hours which is about right, still got all those secrets and star road to go.

It's by far the best 2D platformed I've played since Yoshis' Island, it's also fucking lovely to watch, it's like Super Mario 64s manual renders come to life.

One of the best games I've played this year, along with Nintendoland (my GOTY), ZombieU, Walking Dead and Sine Mora.

Getting Tekken on Tomorrow, anyone up for the next battle? Can't wait to 10 hit throw someone with King, Online, In bed :)

Also, I've just realised this is one of the few times I've posted about a games, on a computer, not on miiverse.

I've noticed something a little bit sad about this.

SMW had this fantastic effect where, when you turned, you saw the front of mario. On this, there's no such animation, it's just left or right.

Played this for a few hours yesterday evening round my friends who coincidently opened the Wii U to finish the woeful update before the kids 'open it' on Christmas Day!

Not sure why Crispy thinks it is the best 2D Mario since Yoshi's Island when there has only been one or two 2D Mario games since then...? The re-packaged GBA games do not count!

Find this to be fun, but surprising soulless compared to the recent-ish Super Mario Galaxy 2 and even the glorious Super Mario 3D Land. A Mario game often puts a silly big smile on my face and makes me gasp in admiration of the clever little level designs and whimsical secrets, which this hasn't really done for me (so far) ...

... a little bit sad to play Rayman Legends demo afterwards and fruitfully realise it has more imagination in one level than what Mario offers me in a couple of hours.

    ... : (

There have been 3 other New Super Mario Bros games, a second Yoshi's Island, and a platformer based around Princess Peach, at least. They're still punching out these games quite regularly. :)

This game is far from original, but it definitely doesn't lack soul. Try playing New Super Mario Bros 2. The level design is quite different, but that one felt stale. This version has been thoroughly enjoyable, I think.

This is xmasy-magic all over it. Mario is glorious in HD.

One MEGA complaint, however. Why the fuck can I not use the Gamepad as a control device in Multiplayer?? It just streams whats on the TV (which I cant turn off either, hence wasting battery) and why can't I use the Pro Controller either? Seriously, WTF. I only have 2 old Wiimotes and cant play 3 player now. Seriously annoyed. This should be able to use every controller, considering it's Nintendos flagship title.

Been playing this on and off, for the past few weeks, sometimes i enjoy it quite a bit, others i think im going throuh the motions. The game didnt seem as difficult as NSWBWii, but it feels like im missing out on a ton of secrets, i managed to find a secret exit in world 6 even, but that was it.

Having completed story mode i delved into challenge mode, its bloody awesome. Tons of levels, 4 modes that are strictly single player and im having a blast with it. Time challenges are excellent, the difficulty ramps up quickly and to be honest this is where the game shines.

While time challenges are my favorite, who doesnt love racing through a level or a pre determined segment as quick as they can, other challenges are the 1up (bloody hard), coin challenge and random type challenge section.

That video above is actually one of the challenges ive come across where you have to complete a level without touching the ground, yeah bloody hard. There's even a return of the penguin and propeller suit in the challenge modes as well.

If you feel like your going through the motions with the story mode give challenge mode a whirl, you'd be surprised at how well the tight gameplay adapts to it.

Does anyone know if you can use the old classic controller pro that plugs into a Wiimote with this?

Has anyone tried playing this with their significant other? Wondering if using the gamepad for adding platforms would be something that's fairly enjoyable for Mario-noob (seriously, how hard is it to hold the run button??!?) without being too annoying for a Mario playing legend? (Hi).

And yes, I'm looking for more ways to convince myself I NEED a wii u.

That's a potential relationship breaker there. "STOP PUTTING BLOODY PLATFORMS ABOVE MY HEAD WHEN I'M JUMPING, BITCH!", and so forth ;)

It could also be great fun though, having her help out with tricky jumps and things like that. You could even become an elite Mario team.

I played this with my girlfriend, but we both got bored of the block placing business and played through it normally. It was as fun as it was frustrating.

This is getting a major Luigi based expansion in the future which is apparently going to change every level of the game.

When does the game checkpoint your progress?
I go into the save and i'm missing some completed levels which is a pain in the arse if a housemate hasn't quicksaved before exiting.

It will probably be like the levels you unlock once you have completed Super Mario 3D Land, some are radically different and some are exactly the same but with a twist.

Anyone know what the update was today? I know they're due to release some new levels playable with Luigi soon.

@alexc7496 According to the new notification on the Wii U menu, it moves all Miiverse posts that are created in-game into a new section of the NSMBU community. There are now 3 distinct community sections. One for general chat, one for the developers to post their related videos and the new one i've just mentioned.

I'm loving it in single player to be honest. Makes me smile every time I give it a go. Up to world 6 now. Doesn't bother me that it's not exactly innovative, it's still bloody good fun after all these iterations. The ghost houses are as mind bending as they ever were in Super Mario World.
