Sorry to resurrect the thread, but just finished this and had to comment on what a superb game it is, the best survival horror for years. Agree with the comments that it needed about another 6 months of polish but the occasional rough edges don't really harm the game. Was unsure whether to bother with it but couldn't resist when I saw it going cheap in a sale, and so glad I did. I would certainly welcome a sequel...

They are playing around with a potential sequel. Hopefully they push on with it. They've got a nice template with ZombiU. It just needs fleshing out. And some extensive multiplayer.

So after the initial buzz of console launch titles, how does it hold up? I've tried the demo and quite liked how it played and at 25 from the eShop it seems reasonable.

Mainly coming from the perspective of really enjoying things like the original Silent Hill and SH:Shattered Memories it looks like my cup of tea so hopefully it doesn't end up getting too much like later Resident Evils.

It's really good but I gave up on it as it kicked my arse once too often, it's nothing like the later RE games. AFAIK it stays tense and ammo is always scarce...

Pretty poor to be honest. The graphics are Wii level, the gameplay is very very repetitive and it just gets stale.

    Nice ideam just poorly done.

the graphics, whilst not the best are certainly not wii level. I think its a pretty good survival horror game tbh. I havent finished it yet though so it may become tedious later on.

The multiplayer is damn good fun though

It's one of the purest examples of survival horror for a while, with all that brings such as resource scarcity and a certain clunkiness that I could understand people not liking. I enjoy it though, as it's nice to experience a zombie apocalypse from the point of view of an average joe.

If you enjoy the demo I'm sure you'd enjoy the rest.

    What? Are you insane?

They're not exactly cutting edge sure, but they're absolutely great, especially considering the dynamic soft-lighting effects, dust motes, shadows, depth of field and everything else going on.

I think the graphics are fine. Nothing amazing, but far from poor. The game serves up some brilliant atmosphere and the clunky controls actually add to the experience. It does get a little repetitive towards the end and certain underground rooms do pop up more than once, which can make things slightly confusing.

I think there are two ways they could have gone with this game. They should have either implemented a deeper storyline to make the journey more interesting, or they should have dropped it, except for the scattering of newspapers and letters (which made for an interesting read) and had the campaign randomise everytime you played.

To be honest I'm amazed it turned out as excellent as it did, given the massive identity crisis it had through development.

It was one of the better launch games I've played - genuinely frightening, atmospheric, and really does a lot to show off and integrate the features of the gamepad.

I really hope they do a sequel and refine and expand the idea further. If they can open up London so it provides more of an open-world experience with less linearity, work a bit more on the narrative (it had a pretty nice backstory and lore), further develop the multiplayer and the roguelike mechanics it could become something truly special, a real survival horror alternative to Dark Souls.

As much as i'd love that, I think Ubisoft have already said no. They had apparently built a new prototype, but 500,000 in sales was not enough for old Ubi. A shame really. If it weren't being sold for 55 a pop at launch, it may have sold more.

It's just daft though, they can't seriously expect something in a pretty hardcore genre released at the launch of a console to sell in the millions, can they?

Publishers have REALLY got their sales expectations out of whack recently.

And perhaps if they didn't go back to the drawing board three times during development, it wouldn't have actually cost as much to develop.

    Best Zombie game I've played.

The only instance where the game pad is used to augment the experience.

I wouldn't go that far. I still think the two Left 4 Dead games are the best zombie-based games out there. I'd say it was one of the better horror games i've played, though.

Probably would give it a 4/10, the combat really really lets it down, it's too repetitive. If it were on PS3 or 360 it would have got absolutely slated- it got sympathy points from the games press for being a) a launch game and b) mature game on a nintendo console.

    Technically, L4D isn't zombies.

Is there something wrong with my Wii U drive, or is ZombiU just a really noisy game?

As opposed to the loud whirr of a PS3 or 360 drive, ZombiU makes a rather disconcerting chugging and clicking sound. Some scenes more than others. Sometimes it's fairly silent, and sometimes a constant stream of chugs and clicks resonates throughout the room.

It is a noisy game, for some reason. Not sure I remember clicks, but the machine did make some weird noises.

Thanks for the feedback, it must just be a bizarrely noisy game. Do they have all the data completely fragmented or something, so the laser is just skipping all over the place to stream data from different areas? Looks like that's probably the case :D

I wouldn't be surprised, really. Even though it had been in development for a few years, including apparently being scrapped at one point, it was rushed out for the launch of the console. I doubt they spent any time on trying to polish it up.

Finally gave it a go after picking it up in the eShop sale last week. I have it through headphones from the gamepad in the dark and it's very atmospheric so far.

To my shame it took me nearly an hour to get out of the starting bit trying find the keycard.

After scanning doors I had somehow managed to convince myself that the door that eventually led to the keycard, needed the keycard to open therefore leaving me searching the whole place like a loon for non existent ladders and passages.

Now out on the surface no doubt about to get mauled. :D

@kingcrowbar watch out for the game breaking bug at the supermarket.

@Pinky_Floyd You should give it another try, mate! The Supermarket is right near the beginning of the game. I'd say about 1/8 of the way through the game.

Most of them were patched in the first half of this year, thankfully. Not sure if that includes the supermarket one though, I vaguely recall most of the fixes being late game. Patch notes were left as a spray painted tag in-game, which I thought was a nice touch :)
