:-P Well yes, but you don't have to be a dirty hippie to appreciate their music.

Vortex, does she even hate "After the Goldrush"? I don't understand how anyone could hate that.

I fear that the prog-loving gene did not survive into the 80s.
Even that. I think she secretly likes 'Heart of Gold', but that's really about it for him. I think his voice grates on her, like Ms Harvey's does. Yet live it wasn't an issue for some reason.
But.. but... the whole album is wonderful but "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" is one of the single most beautiful songs in existence! How anyone can hate that is beyond me. The St Etienne cover is totally lush, but carries none of the broken power of the original.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Doesn't everyone hate the fall? I mean... if they're honest?

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

No, I love The Fall, if I'm honest.

She likes the Saint Etienne version. As I said, it's his voice that grates for her somehow, she can accept he writes a good song.

I should possibly point out that she owned a savage garden cd when I met her, which I have never let her forget....she even made me rip the damned thing for iTunes!

There weren't many albums of overlap when we combined our music collections, and most of those were dance/electronic stuff.

It took me a long time to incorporate some of them into my alphabeticised piles of cd's in various bookcases, instead of leaving them shunned in a forgotten pile hidden in a corner.

I should probably be a little ashamed admitting that.

Edward Hopper. She finds him competent but dull. Which he is in a way. I just love the way he captures the golden hour. Also, his water colour work (rare as it is) is very good too.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Lyn is not really into any music save for Motown. She has special hate reserved for The Doves!, The Smiths, Joy Division, Dylan, Neil Young (A man needs a maid live at the BBC in the 70's is truly stunning)

I listen to music nearly all day and go to sleep to it (headphones) and wake up to it...

Luckily Phoebe (6 year old daughter)takes after me and loves:
    Soundgarden
    Dylan
    Cure
    Specials
Flock of seagulls (If I Had...)
    ETC

...Robbie Williams, she likes/loves him because he is "bad"...for the love of god, I can't wait until she is a teenager :)

Just need to get James involved now. Re music my childrens middle names are Dylan and Lennon...you get the picture.

"Duffman the grey is thrusting in the direction of the problem! Oh, yeah!"

Mrs Boo just about tolerates my love of Rush.
Sadly she can't countenance Mike Oldfield, whose work (up until it all went the shape of the pear, circa 'Heavens Open') I think is truly awesome.

We tend to have similar tastes, or if not, we don't have a particular dislike of anything the other likes.

Only band I can think of that my misses doesn't like that I do is Japan and I've liked them since I was about 12 or 13. Older sister got me into them.
