Just been having some spousal disharmony about Neil Young's ouvre and thought I'd see how many others are in the same boat.

Personally, I love his stuff, but my wife disagrees most heartily. Despite her actually enjoying a gig of his that I dragged her along to a few years back.

Other bands in this situation include Mudhoney, Soundgarden and *especially* PJ Harvey.

It's almost a shame I love 'Let England Shake' so much. ;-)

What bands cause the most disagreement for everyone else's significant others?

I really need my own dedicated music/gaming room...

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Guns N Roses. My other half can't stand Axl Rose's voice. She thinks the songs themselves are ok, but just hates the voice.

She's not keen on Rod Stewart either, but I think he sings some good songs.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

Plus anything by Miles Davis, Count Bassie, Thelonius Monk etc.

Top reason why divorces are ace.

My wife loves Bruno Mars whereas I prefer placing my individual bollocks in a vice.

I will take heart from your last comment there.

I salute Trout Mask Replica, my favourite album for a Sunday afternoon drive. The kids are occupied in the back, whilst my wifes ears bleed.

Also any Frank Zappa album has her tutting in disgust.

I don't really care about her taste in music, shit.

Pedant gland just had a slight spasm. My missus rather likes Beefheart, maybe not Trout Mask that much but then that is understandable. She has little time for hip hop or dance music.

You are a factory of sadness.

    High fives!

Last weekend my lad (9yo) broke out into the intro for Whole Lotta Love. I like to think that was from my teachings :)

The day he starts singing Bruno Mars it is the day I tell him he was adopted.

ed: typo, in case Mr_Sleep points it out ;)

    Stealth "not single" thread.

Vortex, does she even hate "After the Goldrush"? I don't understand how anyone could hate that.

OH does not like early Genesis. This made me sad. He also said he liked Camel, but then later admitted to having been intoxicated at the time. I fear that the prog-loving gene did not survive into the 80s.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Genesis pre-Phil Collins? There's a difference. Not much but still a relative saving roll....

Well, Genesis until Gabriel left. Specifically, I played Foxtrot and he endured it to the end and then asked me never to play it in his presence again :(

I also have problems with Camel, turns out they're quite niche.

To be honest my girlfriend tolerates almost anything I listen to because her taste is fairly broad. She doesn't really 'get' music and will just enjoy a cute song I play or just not mention anything about anything too noisy.

Even that. I think she secretly likes 'Heart of Gold', but that's really about it for him. I think his voice grates on her, like Ms Harvey's does. Yet live it wasn't an issue for some reason.

Prog rock is not overly welcome in our house either. My few Rush & Marillion records had to be ripped when she was out. :)

Oddly enough, the only artist i was never allowed play in her presence was Frank Zappa.

Ornette Coleman spazzing out? Yeah, fine, whatever.
Fredrick Thordendal' solo effort? Not an eyelid was batted.
Gorgut's 'Obscura' record? Leave it on repeat for fun.
Sleep's 'Dopesmoker'? Don't they get bored playing the same bits?

Frank Zappa? Noooppppeeee! I think it's because i used to sing 'Muffin Man' at her to annoy her. And she distrusts 'taches.

I tried getting the wife into Tool, but she's not having it. Says they're too weird, which I suppose songs like Prison Sex don't help much.

She'll listen to Marilyn Manson, though. 0_o

Never understood how they weren't massive, some of the melodies (especially from the first 4 albums) are just so ethereal and serene.

I was jammy enough that my (now ex) not only out up with my proggy tendencies, she actually wanted to go see Rush with me the next time they play Ireland.

@FuzzyDuck - Yes, but tbh even I can take or leave that one.

How anyone can not enjoy their first 3 is frankly mind boggling! :p

My other half is another who hates Neil Young, it's his voice apparently.

See also - Portishead. Though she saw them at Ally Pally last year and she admitted they were great live in spite of Beths voice.
