    Hi all,

A couple of months ago, I decided to start a blog about gaming when you're, ahem, a little more 'mature' in years, with a job, family, responsibilities et cetera.

If this interests you, have a look: Professional, Gamer

I normally read (and post) under a different name, but I thought it might be best to stay anonymous for the time being so I can carry on posting if people hate it!

    Thanks for your attention.

    ZX Spectre

    Professional, Gamer.

Fair enough, I expect I'll get a lot of that, and I probably deserve to. But it's only a bit of fun and I'm hoping a few people will like it. I'm not a needy individual desperate for personal validation. (Ok, maybe a little bit).

Hmm, I don't understand why you want to post this under a different alias. From what I've read there, it's just another personal blog, and decent enough for what it is.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

    Added it to my favourites.

I've thought about doing this myself a few times, but figured it'd just seem like the rose tinted ramblings of someone from a primitive era of gaming.

    Good luck with it. :)

Good stuff. Just read what you've posted so far, and identified with just about all of it.

    Keep up the good work!

I like it. It's good reading stuff from gamers from a similar (ok you're slightly older) era, makes me feel less sad and old. The simple truth is is that I thought I would have outgrown games by now but I find them more exciting than ever. The 32 year old still feels the same picking up the Xbox controller and starting something awesome as the 8 year old did sitting in the back room in front of the family C64 waiting ten minutes for Draconus to load (awesome game).

My son is 2 and a half and judging by his older cousin, who is 5, he'll be showing a real interest in my games console within the next few years. That scares me. I'm a dad? My son wants to play games? wtf! I still want to play games dammit! Growing up sucks!

did you look at the archive.vg link? Right up your alley

    Have now...

Draconus, Yes! Bloody hell I totally remember that cover! http://archive.vg/game/6564/

This site will be a great timekiller when I'm quiet at work.

Edit: Ah, released 1988. Damn, ok, I was 7 then, not 8. I was close as well...

I echo what boo said. Bookmarked.

    @BillCityfingers

I had that game! I remember getting some orb and transforming into something that looked like a mutated prawn in order to dick about in the water.

I THINK it was called the Draconewt? Yeah you could only do it when you stepped on these slabs or something, and when your bouncy green man died he broke in half!

When you say the older gamer, do you mean people old enough to remember when space invaders and xevious was cutting edge, or people who can remember an industry where the phrase 3DMax was often considered some sort of new extreme hardcore BDSM fetish?

Looks great... Welcome to the joys of trying to fit in family, gaming and blogging all about it at the same time. It's exhausting :)

Here's mine. It's roughly the same thing, but as it's aimed at older people, it tries to incorporate stuff like biography, politcs and creative writing, as well as comics and videogames. In fact, without looking at your blog, I'm going to wager mine's infinitely better and more original.

And yes, I have absolutely a great need/desire for personal validation.

Handy hint for anyone too young to have experienced this already.

If your stuck with the family at Christmas and everyone is preventing you from doing your thing then a game of Monopoly will bring things to order.

At what point you spit your dummy out and storm off (to play video games) is up to you but make it look real!
