I'd love a Bethesda style game set in space! Fingers crossed they'll consider something like that in the future!

Have to say this news caught me by surprise. Everyone was assuming that Acti would instruct Infinity Ward to produce a CoD MMO to pull in the money that WoW was doing. Introducing the MMOFPS using a brand new IP from a different (but established) developer is actually a sensible idea, so well played Activision.

Still won't be buying it, mid ;)

I'll set up a kickstarter... How much do we need? 100m?

I'd rather Bungie had ambition and failed, rather than have no ambition at all.

I'll be buying this regardless, I like Sci-Fi, I like shooty shooty.

So it's an MMO that's not an MMO? OK.

Sounds very ambitious, I hope it comes off. Bungie are capable of making amazing stuff - if the gameplay goes Halo-but-further then it could be great.

Microtransaction heavy if there isn't a sub like an MMO.

They're not allowed to call it an MMO because of the recent very expensive catastrophic failures... could scare the share holders. That's also the reason for emphasising how PEOPLE WILL PLAY THIS FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS PLEASE FEEL SAFE TO BUY OUR STOCK.

That said, I liked the art work.

It sounded like a Monster Hunter / Dark Souls approach to online but with guns instead of swords.

"We have just enough crazy to pull this off."

Spoken by the least craziest looking people you'll see! I hate the pompousness and ponderousness of Bungie self-promotion, but it does look good. I do hope those mean-looking alien types don't go running around squealing when you shoot at them, or sticky-grenade you with the their last breath.

Once an eagle taught me courage. And I will never forget that day

The concept sort of reminds me of another game you're very much familiar with - Fusion Genesis. That pretended to be an MMO when it could. Destiny sounds like an FPS with that sort of system, but done properly with lots of players. Certainly has the potential to be awesome :)

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Looks like always-online is our destiny.

Given how well that's worked for Ubisoft and Diablo 3 I might leave others to adopt this early.

Exactly what I thought. With a bit of Journey in there too.

Baffled at "heavily online reliant game structure requires online connection" outrage with this.

yep. it's what the O in MMO stands for ffs.
  • Deleted user 18 February 2013 09:14:13
    I concur.

Although the fact that they're really scared of calling it an MMO isn't helping.

    Confusing message much.

Too high on self importance by far. Hubris is never a good thing.

I am watching this, hoping it doesn't turn into a car crash. At the moment Bungie are in danger of becoming Coldplay.

I feel it is a case of people reading a headline and using that as a basis to get in a big sweat over publishers.

After reading the conceptual structure I immediately saw why it is an online game.

I think the fact it's always online is probably the least of their problems.

After all this bullshit, if the game isn't revolutionary they're going to look mighty foolish.

Rockstar don't pull all this shit, they trickle but they don't invite everyone to a venue to show them nothing.
  • Deleted user 18 February 2013 09:20:56
....and I'd wager GTA 5 as a far more anticipated title.

Helps that we know what it is though.

i don't even think the majority of those complaining are being as 'sophisticated' as that.

being contrary is cool even if the windmill you're flapping your gums in anger at is justified.

i think you've got that spot on. they've created the conditions for a negative backlash with that non reveal.

    @riceNpea

I'm a big Bungie fan from their Halo work and I'm cynical so I can totally see others getting narked.

Bungie have been refining their 'dicktease' for years now. They deserve a good raping.

They might learn some humility at least.

Just show the fucking game or don't. I don't really care for your pretensions.

    @AdamAsunder

'their most disturbing/aggravating pretension about this game is their insistence that games are better when they're a shared experience and that it's the future of gaming. that is a worry because they actually seem to believe that bullshit.

i like playing online with other's but give me a deep, immersive single player game over it any day.
  • Deleted user 18 February 2013 09:43:48
    @riceNpea

I like multiplayer like the next man but I only ever get truly immersed in single player games.

In multiplayer the little details get missed.

Yeah the whole "wow, look, some complete randomer in my game-space!" became tiresome some years ago.

Pencil drawings of space towns and crazy aliens isn't enough to get the internet excited about your product anymore.

got to say though as for the story, man spreading out into neighbouring systems only to be near annihilated by unknown forces and saved by a mysterious entity, would be a novel i could be interested in. especially if someone like Peter F Hamilton wrote it.

i know it sound a little hackneyed but sci fi is my thing. i read it almost exclusively.
  • Deleted user 18 February 2013 10:27:07
This thread is a good example of how gamers seem to feel entitlement. On how they think they are owed something.

You didn't like the reveal? Boo hoo.

I would have liked to of seen more in game stuff but oh well. Bungie can do what ever they like, they don't owe gamers anything.

No matter what developers do now they get bitch tits on the internet moaning or even worse starting a petition.

Imagine if dark.souls 2 had an easy option...OH MY GOD WE MUST BOYCOTT IT.

    Grow up guys.
