For US comedies look no further than Arrested Development and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Both are excellent.

    I totally called it.

I like Big Bang Theory and Modern Family but I think they are the only comedy sitcoms I watch.

I tired that Two Broke Girls the other day and it is unwatchable, complete shite. The blond bird is tidy though.

I don't think anyone watches 2 Broke Girls for anything other than Kat Denning's cleavage.

Has anyone mentioned The League yet? Easily the funniest US sitcom airing at the moment.

First couple of Big Bang Theroy series were good, but it's now descended into a Friends rip off.

As soon as the girls became main characters it was ticked off my watchdog list. It's still ok Sunday afternoon background fodder, but like most American telly shows it forgot what made it good in the first place.

Big Bang Theory has always been an awful, awful sitcom.

King of Queens is one of those things that was ruined by the revelation that almost everyone involved was a batshit scientologist.

    Bar Gerry Stiller, of course.

@StarchildHypocrethes I think it gets away with a lot more because it's about characters that we don't normally see. It follows a template but I think it's still funnier than the vast majority of US sitcoms.

She had kids and never lost the weight, I think.

The show was good for a few seasons there. The last few were poor, and not only because Carrie doubled in weight.

I do actually watch The Big Bang Theory but I never laugh. I might smile every now and then, but that's it.

To be honest, the show really isn't funny at all, so I could easily live without it.

I couldn't recommend a single sitcom made today, tbh. My tv-watching time is spent mainly on sports and hbo. I like a few of the "reality" shows, like Storage Wars and Gold Rush, but that's about it. The Discovery Channel has gone downhill overall, though. They must have 6 different gold-finding shows nowadays.

Community, Happy Endings, New Girl and 30 rock are genuinely really good, often hilarious sitcoms. I've heard the U.S Office, Parks and Rec, It's always sunny in Philadelphia and Modern Family are all excellent as well.

Compare that to here, in terms of good comedies in recent years we've had The Office, Extras, Inbetweeners and Peep Show. All we have left right now is Peep Show and thats on its 8th series. British Comedy really needs a kick up the arse. America make a load of shit, but they also seem to have some real gems in there too. Over here we produce the same amount of shit with far less gems.

I haven't watched New Girl. Never really rated Zooey D. as a comedian, so figured it would be terrible. I was surprised to hear it made it past a 1st season, but that could also be as telling to the quality of all sitcoms in general.
  • Deleted user 27 November 2012 16:00:29
I couldn't get into New Girl. Same with The Mindy Project. And that other new one, The New Normal. That one's only funny for "racist old woman" and that burnt itself out a couple of episodes ago.

Just counted that we tape thirteen sitcoms a week. It's just absolute overkill. There's too many of the fuckers.

New Girl really isn't that good, and Zooey's character is incredibly annoying.

Actually, its finest moments aren't much to do with her. The three housemates tend to have the best lines. Don't get me wrong, it's not amazing and I don't record every episode, rather if it is on and there's not much else on then I'll watch it.
