    http://www.torontosun.com/2012/11/26/two-and-a-half-men-star-angus-t-jones-my-show-is-filth

Recently converted to fundamentalist god botherer with the Christian Forerunner Church after taking Bible Studies in school. Apparently the "raunchy" humour is incompatible with Christian beliefs, and this kind of show causes chemical changes in the brain that are bad for you (yes, seriously).

This has apparently caused a shitstorm debate in America about the content to mainstream tv comedy and its use of child actors, with him being alternately praised by the usual suspects and told to stfu by others. Naturally the tv giants are a bit uncomfortable about the whole thing.

    He makes $350k PER EPISODE.

His contract expires at the end of the current series. I wonder who won't be asked to return for another?

Bewildering fact: 2.5 men is apparently the third most popular comedy in the US (but it's shit!) and has been running for nearly a decade.

It's a shitstorm debate to the extent that I only knew about it from the BBC news ten minutes ago, despite watching the evening news earlier.

Presumably if he thinks the whole thing is immoral and somehow causes health conditions he will be donating his rather staggering personal fortune from being part of the show for 9 years to charitable causes.

Funny, I also only heard about it on the BBC website.

Feel a little sorry for the kid. Then felt really happy for the poor and homeless near him. His conversion to Christianity is certain to be a windfall for them as he faithfully distributes his wealth.
  • Deleted user 27 November 2012 03:44:59
Yes. Hence why my comment was laden with sarcasm. There's no shitstorm about child actors (he's 19, for one thing), there's just CBS shrugging their shoulders and watching the viewing figures rise. That's about it.

heh, that was my very first cynical thought. Followed shortly after by "innuendo = brain cancer lol"

Wasn't he 10 when he started on it?

So... the BBC is blowing it out of proportion then? Or is the debate mainly restricted to the internet (the report cites youtube and the kids church seems to be leaping all over it to get themselves some attention(

And he's 19 now when he's making the comments.

It's no different to the Charlie Sheen thing, really - viewing figures rose dramatically after he fucked off. The cynic in me could even suggest that this is orchestrated to do the exact same thing, after an Autumn season that saw declining sitcom figures across every network.

I'll laugh if the kid now signs on for another season. He's pretty much painted himself into a corner with this one. I doubt any network would really want to touch him in case he pulls the same stunt with them.

It would help if they produced decent comedy. Makes me nostalgic for Frasier. Can't stand Family Guy/Simpsons/Amer Dad/SP since they disappeared up their own arse years ago, and tedious shite like 2.5m, M&G, and all the other shite that gets piped over here on random sky channels makes me think the whole genre over there is in a serious slump atm in terms of quality writing. The only thing that does still get the occasional laugh is BB Theory, but that's just my inner nerd being pleased there's a show I can identify with than anything else and that has suffered a severe drop in quality too in the last couple seasons.

Thankfully over here we have Peep Show, Outnumbered raises consistent laughs in our house and Miranda is making a respectable if inconsistent go at dragging the farce into the 21st century. And we have the best stand-up scene in recent memory right now.

Dunno about that, there's a lot of decent comedy about if you look past the syndicated shite. I watch Don't Trust The B, Happy Endings, Modern Family, The Middle, Parks and Rec and It's Always Sunny every week, and they're good, and even then I think I've forgotten a couple that I do watch. The problem with it is that there's so fucking many of them. There's a couple of new episodes of various sitcoms every day of the week, more or less every day.

I've heard of Modern Family, but never seen it being broadcast over here at all which is a shame as it seems like the sort of thing I'd like, despite seeming a bit Malcom In the Middle.

It's funnier than Malcolm in the Middle.

Also there's plenty of decent American sitcoms like meme said, it's just you have to remember when living TV or Channel 5 release yet another "Hit American Smash Comedy" it's normally because they could actually afford it. Which invariably means it had a million people watch it... which in America is actually rubbish. Or something like that.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The UK only shows two types of still-running US sitcoms - those that have been running for so long that they can buy up transmission rights to earlier seasons for pennies, or those that are massive ratings smashes (shite like Two And A Half Men, Big Bang Theory etc) that the UK networks fight and haggle over. Everything that falls inbetween those two categories is basically ignored and will wait until syndication makes them cheap.

2.5 M has always been shit, interspersed with funny/tender moments and sympathetic characters.

The kid seems a bit weird, but then everyone is, especially actors. Especially child actors.

I'm surprised Dakota Fanning isn't already turning tricks for crack.

I was about to say Natalie Portman turned out quite well, but then I remembered Your Highness.

Modern Family is on Sky 1 & 2 all the time. It's one of the best things on TV, very funny indeed. The first two seasons are also on UK Netflix.
