I have an old iMac running Spotify and now I want to have the music stream wirelessly to two other rooms. I know AirportExpress does this but I wonder if there is any other solution?

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

That looks nice but it might be overkill for me. Have a bunch of speakers I just want to plug into a "wireless bridge" kind of thing. If I understand the sonos deal I need to buy players and bridges from them.

Ah fuck it. I'll end up buying myself deeper into the cuddly nest of Apple.

I think with Sonos you can just get the connect amp then use your own speakers. Go here and click the "add your speakers" link.

Sonos are making a bit of a name for themselves as THE brand for this kind of thing.

@armoured_bear I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy even more iGadgets.
But as many times before they are leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.

There is incidentally a homeplug device which you can use to connect speakers in multiple rooms to one sound source (much like the internet equivalent). It's not exactly wireless, but it's an interesting option.

Sonos is fantastic. It will connect to spotify for you, allow you to create playlists using a mixture of your own files and songs off spotify. You can have all rooms play the same thing, or you can have different rooms playing different things. You can even use the line in from any one of the units and then stream it to any combination of rooms. And you control the whole thing from anywhere using the controller software that's been ported to everything. I really can't fault it.

Squeezebox(es) might be an alternative, bit cheaper than Sonos, I think. You need an amp though, unless you have active speakers. You can stream the same music synchronized to several squeezeboxes or squeezebox radios, or different music, of course.*

*Er, yeah, like the post above mine has just explained for Sonos... :)

I do really want Sonos. I do love the idea that once you're bought into the system you can just expand and expand.

If they did an outdoor speaker, that would probably seal it for me.

Noticed a TV advert last night.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

@kalel Hmm.. power is needed for all the alternatives any way so it's no limitation. Will look into it.

I was very close to spunking a big wedge of cash on a sonos setup the other day when I was in richer sounds. Went in for some headphones and became very covetous as I was waiting for the bloke to fetch my box out the the back.

In the end I bottled it and just bought another iPod speaker dock for the kitchen.
