Sounds vaguely like The Eagles (specifically the drums). Don't think it is in a million years though. For my official guess I'll go with 10cc as it also sort of reminds me of them too (also the drums) but also the more experimental sounds are quite 10cc-ish to me.

Is it really The Eagles? Never realised their sound was so distinctive before, it really brings them to mind instantly. Shame I reckoned it couldn't really be them though.

    Mindnight Mindbender, meme. Please :)

It is! I thought it was some boring prog-rock band for years, but no - it's The Eagles. They were on Jools the other night.

What was the first film to be released on DVD (which was also coincidentally the last to be released in HD-DVD, at least in the US)?

    Neither of those.

    Just looked it up.

Never would have guessed it. What a milestone for a thoroughly unremarkable movie.

Good grief. Nope - would never have guessed that. Clues will be required.

Film was a major release of 1996.

1996... hmm... really have to shoot in the dark here...

    Probably need another clue.

It had Helen Hunt in it.

    So:

As any fool knows, a proton is made of two up quarks and a down quark, and a neutron is made of two down quarks and an up quark. A neutron is unstable in isolation and decays to a proton, spitting out a W boson in the process. The W boson then decays further to form an electron and an antineutrino.

A proton is 1,836 times as heavy as an electron. A neutron is 1,842 times as heavy as an electron. In units of electrons, tell me how heavy is a:

    a) up quark
    b) down quark
    c) antineutrino

(spindizzy to the thread! this logic gives a mass to an antineutrino - how can this be right?)

Okay... treating this as a maths problem rather than a physics one...

    Antineutrino: 5 Electrons
    Up Quark: 610 Electrons
    Down Quark: 616 Electrons

Yep, it's dead simple really. I obviously don't understand something in it, maybe symmetry is broken with the creation of the W boson (which definitely has mass) and reestablished with the electron and antineutrino, the latter of which definitely does not have mass.

    Your go.

It does have mass! A teensy weensy immeasurable bit of mass! Or so I've heard.

    By jimminy you're right!

By deduction they must weight five times as much as an electron!

Electrons have mass - I'm sure I remember an A level physics textbook listing several contants. Mass of an electron was one. Charge on an electron was another, Avogadro's contant, speed of light in a vacuum, etc etc.

That's right! And quarks weigh far more than electrons!

I know electrons do. I wasn't aware until right now that antineutrinos (or indeed any neutrinos) had mass.

I'm racking my brains here for another question that isn't a simultaneous equation wrapped around a physics core.
