Is it the geezer who noticed something about shadows down a well at midday or something. Then he measured the angle difference between Cairo and Alezandria and thus worked out the size of the earth.

Yep, I think that's close enough. You either know it or you don't, it's difficult to guess this one.

Eratosthenes was his name. Alistair over to you.

    Fucking hell Alastair :p

In the film The Hunt for Red October, the titular submarine is shown early on leaving the Polyarny inlet with Sam Neill and Sean Connery on the sail. The only major visual difference between this Typhoon and the real life Typhoon is the large, bulb-shaped towed sonar array on the top of the rudder, which the real subs don't have.

This however makes nonsense of two subsequent events in the film. Name either of them.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Isn't there a bit where they're trying to identify it by its sonar shape and going "IT'S TOO BIG" or something? I can't remember. It's either that or Sean Connery's accent.

Maybe you should have, seeing as for most people - presenting at a meeting would account for a very low % of meetings attended.

How about I nominate you to ask questions in my stead, unless I do actually think of one.

Also, you're struggling a bit with the comedy mis-spellings. neilka would have done that better.
