@riceNpea Wasn't sky available in the UK since the 80s? Technically, there were more channels no?

I'm depressed that I knew that without even thinking.

    Okay.

I am a director. I've spawned several movie franchises. The first movie in each was a box office smash. The subsequent sequels (of which I had nothing to do with) were critical and commercial failures.

    Who am I?

    Paul Verhoeven?

(depends on where you come out with Showgirls...)

    Spot on.

Did Showgirls get a sequel then? Wasn't aware of that. Which sort of invalidates the question a bit.

    Showgirls 2: Penny's From Heaven.

The title makes me annoyed because in order for the pun to work you have to ignore the bad grammar.

OK, question (this is a favourite of mine). What is missing from this list:

    Akira.
    Norway.
    Sabre.
    Defiant.
    Miranda.
    Steamrunner.
    Nebula.
    Oberth.

    I'm looking for one word.

It's Star Trek ships, isn't it? I don't know the answer, though.

I know there are loads missing. The trick is to identify why I've gone with these ones.

Is it something videogame related? The only one I can think of (and even then it's unlikely) is ships in Birth of the Federation, in which case the Excelsior is missing. But I bet more are missing, so it's not that :p

Yep, googled that game and I couldn't be more wrong! It has lots of ships. No idea how I forgot that.

How about Star Trek Legacy? Just thinking as I type. Now I'm realising that's wrong as Galaxy and NX-class are missing. Starfleet Command 2? Excelsior for that. And Constitution, so not that. Or STO. I don't think it's game based now.

Ships that showed up on Voyager, only Intrepid missing! And Prometheus. Balls.

Federation ships that appeared in First Contact. That'd make it the Sovereign. Bit of a wild shot, I know there's a bit of the Battle of Sector Zero Zero One in that film so I might have missed others.
