Which might mean (I hope!) that a greater range of Star Wars games might eventually appear, since Disney are rich and LucasArts must be poor, or crushed beneath George Lucas' mad grasp.

As I said in the other thread, given Disney's track record with games I wouldn't necessarily consider this a good thing. Expect shovelware and games for kids.

Not looking good for Lucasarts, but they have been crap for a long time.

Bob Iger: "We're likely to focus more on social and mobile than we are on console. We'll look opportunistically at console, most likely in licensing rather than publishing, but we think that given the nature of these characters and how well known they are, and the storytelling, that they lend themselves quite nicely, as they've already demonstrated to the other platforms"

It's possible with Zynga tanking, they'll actually assess the current state of the infmdustry and decide social gaming was a fad, with emphasis on the "was".

Then they'll make fucking Rogue Squadron.

A friend of mine works for Disney and he said the idea is to release ORIGINAL CUTS of Star Wars. restored and spruced up image and sound wise but otherwise AS SEEN ORIGINALLY.

After that theyll edit Revenge of the Sith to include a scene where Anakin kills JarJar in his Jedi school rampage.

I can't see how this will lead to any decent Star Wars games, never mind more Secret of Monkey Islands or any other classic adventures. Look at all the decent Marvel games that have been released since Disney got that license, sod all.

Of course now they can do that epic Muppet Star Wars film where Kermie gets tempted to the dark side, and only the forbidden love of Miss Piggie can save him.

For classic adventures, surely Schafer's new kickstarter project is the place to head? We have an obsession with reviving things from the past like some sort of security blanket. Leave them where they are and embrace the new wares.

That might be true, but personally never played a Space game as good as Tie Fighter since, and I am a bit sad that there will never be a Star Wars game like that again. Lucasarts was probably a bigger part of my childhood then even the Star Wars films, if it wasn't for Monkey Island would probably have given up on gaming a long time ago.

And we will see with Shafer's new game, Lets see if it actually lives up to the billing.

Did Viva know this was happening? Just because I was watch South Park where they broke into Lucas's to get back the Radiers of Lost Arc master to prevent it being remastered last night, fell asleep and woke to this news

What I'm wondering is what exactly is happening with SWTOR right now. Swtor.com is down, servers are down, and the SWTOR twitter is silent. I hope Disney didn't kill it, I really like this game. :(

Edit: I just realized it could be Sandy. Hmm.

Prowse has never been paid royalties from Return of the Jedi because according to the book keeping it never made a profit.

I read that on the Internet.

Also, my assumption about the Disney purchase leading to new games is based around my other assumptions on what has been stifling production up to now. However, it could have more to do with all eggs being in SWTOR-which-nobody-wants, more money to outsource production being a scary risk to them, and nobody remaining at LucasArts to make or produce games any more. I mean, they don't make ANY games, do they? Why did some other guys make Rogue Squadron, and Battlefront or whatever it was called?

Well yes, but is he so massively rich the to him it is the equivalent of someone like me handing 400 quid over to charity?

Well no, his entire net worth is around 7 billion, so it's like you giving away more than half of everything you have.

Then I'd be impressed at that too. Not that it would make a jot of difference to the charity. Might keep then in teabags and sugar for a couple of years.

Well, not really. Most people would be financially crippled by giving away half of what they have, whereas he still has more money than he could ever possibly spend. Not that it isn't a cool thing to do still, but there comes a point where you have so much money that there's something wrong with you if you don't do some good with it, especially as it won't affect you in any way at all.

I mentioned his philanthropy the other thread and it was hounded down. Hard to say anything bad about someone pledging to give away half of his wealth to charitable causes. Unless its a massive tax dodge :)

Yes, I think that's pretty obvious. Point is, it's still a cool thing to do.

There's no equivalent for "normal" people. He's giving away half of his net worth but after a certain amount of wealth, how much more do you need? Warren Buffett said that if he gave away 99% of his money (which he's planning to do), he wouldn't have to change anything about his lifestyle. He wouldn't lose any mansions, wouldn't lose his private jets, etc.
