Excellent. He was the biggest problem in the prequel production.

He was part of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles which was ace, but being part of the prequels tarnishes him.

So, Jason Flemyng has broken the news that Matthew Vaughn will be on directing duties for the new film:

That'd be quite a bold choice I reckon.

Nah, not that bold - he's been building up his credit in Hollywood very nicely with the films he's directed, all of which have performed well and gained good critical reception.

He'd be a great choice in my opinion.

He is compared to say, Joe Johnston. Very much so in fact.

Really? Much of a muchness imo. If anything Vaughn is more bankable. Johnston has quite a lot of shit under his belt, although admittedly he also has some links to Star Wars and Lucas.

johnson is a bit too twee for me. But then, I just don't trust Vaughan particularly. Still think Alfonso Cuaron should have had a crack at the whip.

Interesting piece on this in Entertainment Weekly a while back - let slip that A) the Disney sale and wanting to do Episode 7,8 and 9 were done deals back in June and B) the old cast were informed around this time because there's a large chance they're going to be in it. Whether it's major roles or just cameos is mostly unclear.

I'm certain it'll be cameos. It would be utter madness for it to be anything else.

Decent choice though his films are good first half, shit second half in my opinion. Maybe good writing will correct that.

Yeah, we don't need too old for this shit lines though I would love Han Solo to just appear in fight and shoot the guy no questions asked, first, grumpy smirk from Ford.

Ford's the most likely to not appear at all. He apparently hated playing Han Solo and tried to get him killed off in Jedi.

Ford hates everything. He hated Bladerunner. He hated Star Wars. He's just a grumpy old cunt.

He's already got a big VFX-heavy sci-fi film coming out soon, so he's already having a crack at that genre.

That's true. I get the impression he basically hates acting and would have been happier had Lucas left him as a carpenter.

I thought his excuse for that was basically "I'm contracted to support the film".

I often wonder if he looks back on his career and thinks he might have slightly fucked it up. There's no doubt that he's a great actor, and yet somehow he didn't quite get the accolades and awards you'd think he would have. I do wonder how much that's to do with him being a bit of a dick.

Although, when you look at those pictures, he has been in very few stinkers, so he either reads his scripts or has a good agent.

I was staring at that last one for a while thinking "is that supposed to be Indy 5?"

Then I realised I'd actually managed to wipe Cowboys and Aliens entirely from memory. I've seen the entire thing through and only remember that Bond had something stuck to his arm for most of it.

I'd say he's been in a fair few stinkers, or at least a great deal of extremely run of the mill blockbusters.
