Apparently no Indiana Jones films planned, too many issues with Paramount and merchandising.

Joss Whedon to direct a Star Wars film, how terrific would that be?
Didn't bring much to the Avengers.

I don't think we should expect more than your average summer blockbuster when it comes to these films. No wonder directors or writers, just playing it safe.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth.

What films would we want these new Star Wars films to be like

Star Wars mixed with Goodfellas. Joe Pecsi to do voice for HK 47

Or more likely Star Wars mixed with police academy 7

Well it all depends on how much power Lucas will have with the " creative consultant " role he still has

I'd be happy with a film adaptation of the Heir To The Empire trilogy. Those three books were the best sequel to the original trilogy than we could possibly hope for, taking the darker tone of Empire and presenting fans with a more adult take on the universe and characters than anything Lucas himself ever managed to achieve.

Not gonna happen. This'll be lowest common denominator aimed stuff, guaranteed.

This is amazing news. Don't care about Star Wars but it means we might get more Plinkett reviews.

Well they will want to make as much money back ASAP.

Will release the original trilogy again on Blu ray without all the Lucas extra Additions

Make some good money off that for starters. Just take my money for those now

Anyone know whether ILM was included in the deal? That's a pretty big money spinner.

Between them and Weta, that's basically the best talent in the effects business.
  • Deleted user 30 October 2012 22:21:09
At least if Pixar did the effects it will look more photorealistic than the PT. They looked like a fucking Gamecube game.

That's a bit harsh on the gamecube.

Hopefully they remember Star Wars is supposed to be a campy serial ala Flash Gordon and steer well clear of those godawful sequel novels/comics and their hilariously bad attempts to take the whole thing seriously.

Nolan to direct. "The Dark Side Rises"

The prequel trilogy showed the series is boring unless the bad guys are already in charge.

A fun film that doesn't try to be all moody and dark on for no reason.

    Like the ot really

They got ILM and Skywalker Sound as part of the deal, which must be be pretty big money spinners.

Why is Rolf Harris doing all the press and signing pictures on behalf of Lucas?

As someone else said on Google+, this means Leia is now a Disney Princess.

This is pretty gobsmacking news. Lucas said he'd never do another one and also said nobody could remake them. That still remains true I think.

I don't think Disney would do anything so boring as TPM etc. Taxation? Fuck that shit!

Lego Star Wars ESB was/is broadcast today on the Cartoon Network. Wouldn't mind seeing that. Don't have access though. :(

Havn't disney also recently acquired rights to terry pratchett discworld as well? if so, thats two master stroke purchases.

Personally i think this is a good thing. I sort of trust disney to do the right thing here.

In their defense, it really, really can't be worse than the previous new tat.

And I liked Flight of the Navigator.

    Oh yes, this.

Lucas to write everything and direct. Cute squeaky robots, silly aliens, dialogue from the arse of a scientologist and wooden acting by the most disheartened actors who're prepared to accept. To top things off, a nerdquake audience who'll buy every fucking version they can yet bitch about it for years.

This could potentially clear the way for the tv series after all these years. Disney own ABC, which could hopefully mean that any crap around having to enter negotiations with different networks in order to get the project backed is now rendered moot.
  • Deleted user 30 October 2012 23:16:12
It could mean we end up seeing Luke and Leia crop up in Once Upon A Time.

I'm only half joking about that, too. They're already branching out to other Disney franchises, and are talking about getting some Pirates of the Caribbean in there, moving further away from fairy tales.

Happy and amazed for the new persistent regular films and that it is out of georges hands.
Sad that it is Disney, as I want to see 15/18 rated Star Wars films. A dark film, not for gory loving teenagers, but harrowing and deep, that plays on the tortured mind and acts of malice and of desire.
