Alex Guiness wasn't thin and Hamill doesn't look bad at all for that equivalent role imho.

I don't think it necessarily matters at all that they're old. Old people are old. A good script will make it a non-issue (which is the thing that Indy 4 didn't have).

I dunno, a lot of actors tend to go really shit when they're old (see Al Pacino, Harrison Ford etc) - and Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were both shit to begin with. I have an extremely bad feeling that this is going to be even worse the the prequels. Getting the original cast involved is a terrible, terrible idea imo.

No way will it be worse than the prequels. JJ Abrams is a quality filmmaker, and I think the original cast will be involved in a supporting capacity and probably won't be the stars of three new films. Look at how he handled the Star Trek reboot, with only bringing in Leonard Nimoy and not Shatner. The pressure for him to cast Shatner in the film was immense, but he knew what was best for his film. Ford, Hamill, Fisher, they'll be there for nerd nostalgia and to pass the torch.

Having a director who can direct and someone who can write a script on board, they are already far, far, far more likely to make something better than the prequels.

I hope you're right. Just remember Lucas will be poking his trotter into this a lot as well.

Do we know who is writing the script?

Lucas has got his nephew to do it.

But now they have people who can and will tell him to fuck off. With the best will in the world, everyone involved now will know how much of a hash he made of the last three.

I think the main reason why actors get worse with age is because they start doing films with bad directors. Pacino still has the odd good film when he works with the right director. The only reason Ford only gets to be in shit now is because he burned his bridges with everyone good.

I agree that director and script are the most important things for making these good. I still think they won't be, but they could be.

How do you think producers will convince the fatties hamill and fisher to loose weight?

Why would they need to lose weight?

Like Robert De Niro. You kind of worry about him. Hes been in so many shit films recently, you kind of wonder if hes trying to make as much money as he can, as quickly as possible.

He's been doing that for the last 15 years! Anger Management and those Focker films were the start of the slippery slope...

I would be surprised if Fisher ended up in the movie. Quite apart from her weight, she really seems to have some serious issue, not least being her penchant for complaining about star wars to anyone who will listen.

Both Pacino and De Niro (and Pesci) are going to star in the new Scorcese gangster flick, which is probably going to be a big let down, but certainly has the potential to be a wonderful thing.

I expect Leia and Han will be like Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen. Probably taking it easy and being parents and not running around with blaster guns getting in to fights. Luke will be like old Obi Wan. I don't think they will try to pretend these guys aren't old.

De Niro was great in Silver Linings Playbook, but Al Pacino is just awful now. I can't think of anything he's been remotely decent in for years.

If they give a role to Luke, you would think it would have to be a reasonably major one.

At the end of Jedi, hes the last (known) force user in the entire galaxy, so he will be like the jedi pope, at least popping up like Yoda did in the prequels.

I think he was really bad for more most of the 80s and 90s, but then had a bit of a resurgence in things like Donnie Brasco and Insomnia, where he tones it down a bit.

I don't know if he's really done anything good since, but I'm sure he still could.

I know this is reasonably sacrilegious, but im not a huge fan of him in Scarface. Im not a great fan of the movie anyway, but you can have enough of Pacino screaming every line at you.

See I like shouty Al. Yeah he over acted but I still enjoy it. Now he's just like a creepy old guy with zero screen presence.

Scarface is cheesy fun but I'm not sure why it's so revered really. It's not all that. His best roles are early things like Godfather, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon and Cruising.

I also really like him in Dick Tracy, although that's a "big acting" one, but it works there. Somewhat forgotten and underrated film generally imo.
