No, but the toilet roll holders in my cubicles are the perfect height to flop to one side and catch forty winks on the andrex pillows.

A small gift shop that sells ipads?

Shouldn't you be selling wind chimes or something?!

    FCUTA!

I live on a small island (population around 1500), for work I go on a seabus to a much smaller island for work, and there was/is high demand for the iPad mini so we got one and getting more in. We sell various stuff, games, books, dvds, blurays, yarn, x-mas decorations at the moment, digital cameras, SD cards, 2 laptops, 2 DSis, 2 3DSs's'ssers, CDs, 2 bluray players, school stuff, barbies, lego, balloons, boardgames, headphones/earphones and in early December we're getting in a LG LED 3D 40-something inch TV.
I have no idea what kind of shop I would call this, its very small as well. I'm too lazy to guess the measurements as today is my only day off this week.
The store next door to us has wind chimes I think.

I love being a designer and my job would be OK if it wasn't for my boss. She slates everything I do, and in my review last week she spent an hour telling me what I let down I am in terms of being creative. She very briefly mentioned the fact that an extremely important client was incredibly pleased with work that I did for them recently, didn't acknowledge that I've had four "notable achievements" this year despite being here for nine months and kept going on about how she really wants to see me "grow creatively". I know that I'm not the best designer, but I am competent although she made me feel useless.

The icing on the cake is that she's made the other designer "team leader" even though he's been here a total of two months longer than I have and has seven years' less experience as a designer than I do which is bad enough, except that she knew that I wanted to be able to progress in the company, not him. So now the other designer's ego has suddenly grown over the past couple of days, he's bossing me around and now he's landed work with a new client. She wants him to help me to be a better designer (gnnnn!). He also has a brand new Mac Pro with a 27 inch thunderbolt display and I have the oldest, slowest Mac known to man with the cheapest monitor you can buy. When I asked for an upgrade, she refused. Favouritism much?

My boss also nags me incessantly via email when she's not here in the office (she works from home two days a week - yeah right) but the weird thing is that she's always really nice to my face, even when I know she has a beef with me.

So, I've been in this job for only 9 months and it's the first permanent job I've had for years so I don't want to give up on the job yet. I think my boss is intent on dragging me down and maybe sticking around isn't such a good idea.
You a union member. They straighten this shit out pretty quickly.

    You dare to strike Scurrcules!?

Sounds like you have a long way to go before you're a better designer than your Team Leader RubyRed, maybe take some pointers off him? He seems a decent guy.

    Get bent.

I've finally got out of working in some form of sales and now I'm doing project management for a small software company.

I didn't even know you COULD wake up on a morning and not dread the thought of going to work.

Yep, basically this applies to any position where it's generally ok to be a cunt from time to time.

Still stalking this place, old-school style (UID: 1053)

Probably best place to put this.

I've come to the conclusion that I hate my job. I'm bored of having to deal with customers and 'selling'. I'm not a natural salesman, I don't like people enough. Now, I'm trying to figure out what job I would like. I don't mind interacting with the public if it's kept to a minimum and a bit of variation or at least been left to do a task I seem to like. Any ideas?

I currently work in optics by the way, as in Opticans, not the pub. I do like the lab work but it's hard to get in to that side of the job right now.

Invest in a laser pointer and start doing eye surgery in your living room.

Back when I was at school, they never really spelt it out, the purpose of school and what it leads to. Looking back, what they should have done was hold lessons point the obvious out in more interesting ways. For boys it would have been quite simple: what car do you want to drive?
..and show on a big screen various cars, and what job(s) leads to greater likelihood of potential ownership. That way certain subjects would have taken on a whole new light.

Who cares about minimum wage supermarket checkout people anyway? Just use the self service counters and you can avoid having to interact with the sweaty plebs.
They don't all fall into the same category you describe. There's some attractive ones where I shop ;D

I hated my last job so I simply started looking for another.

I know it's pretty hard going finding jobs in some parts of the Country but if you have the opportunity, get out of your shit job. It's so worth it.

A shit job can really make you feel shit about yourself and before you know it, will affect other aspects of your life negatively.

I think laser surgery in my room is the way to go :)

I might just see if I can get a supermarket job stacking shelves. I'd probably get paid the same and I'd just have to tell people where the beans are...despite the signs above each aisle.

Totally agree. My last job was with a big international bunch of arse heads and I went there under the promise of rapid promotion, opportunities to work abroad, high level of training etc. At this point I had been in the trade for about yen years and as they mainly employed CHEAP inexperienced people I was one of the best engineers they had.  After a year or so in the electrical workshop I was asked to take over the lifting gear workshop. As there was hardly any proper stuff there I arranged for proper equipment to be installed, visited other main lifting depots to gain an understanding of what was needed , 'borrowed' some gear from them and went on several specialist courses. After all that, I went to the area manager, showed him what I had done (basically set up a fully functioning lifting gear workshop with full testing and storage facilities and earned numerous training course certificates) asking when I would be made supervisor and was told quite plainly that I was a mere trainee and had never been told I would be a workshop or depot supervisor. Within three months I had found myself a job at an independent company, told the depot manager and area manger that they were wankers and Ileft for my new workshop. I am in my thirteenth year here now, have full control over the workshop and get on well with everyone here from the owners to the cleaners.
To summarize, work can be shit, and if it is,  do what  spaekymarky says, and what I did. Get another job, in the same trade or something new. Don't let work drag you down.

I have a pretty well paid job for my experience and just coming out of uni but my boss can be incredibly condescending but also incredibly realistic and understanding, its a strange one. I think its because im fresh faced and new (despite being here for 6 months now).

I get to travel the world and work with some inspiring people but its just the wrong side of the music industry.

I also had to get a weekday rental about 90 miles from home as travel was killing me and i feel like im missing out on events and seeing my friends in London :(

Still i try and focus on the positive and actively am trying to be happier, im in a good job, i dont have the potential stresses some people do and its pretty relaxed here.

Small things have got to me, i used to be at the gym constantly but since starting here havent been once, only today am i making the effort to really go after work.
