I am totally up for this. I've got about a 2000 hour lead according to Steam on most people here though!

It needen't be as intimidating as all of what the review wrote. Dota is a big jigsaw, except you choose the pieces you want to fit together. When it comes to learning, don't just choose one character to learn, learn one role and then move on to the next.

Examples of roles would be Support, Roamer, Carry, Semi-Carry and Initiator. Support (normally 2 on a team) would cover necessary items like Wards for map vision, upgrading couriers, healing items and mana regen items to keep people in the field the longest. Roamers (normally your middle lane position) who are off map and hidden in the fog mostly, making the other team feel unsafe as to when they'll pop out - and when they do, it's a gank fest. Carry, your farming machine whose job it is to get absolutely hench and single handedly win the game for you - your Semi-Carry, who doesn't need as many items to do so but also falls off in late game (they're more of a pace setter and good teamfight specialists) - and then yoru Initiators, who go BALLS DEEP and dive into the enemy team for lols.

Pick one of them, pick a hero who compliments that playstyle, THEN go. Never just random and yolo. >:

I've been wanting to try this for some time but as many say the community put me off. Count me in for some EG matches though, be good to learn without some c**t screaming at me.

Ha, you should try it then! Because if there's anything Dota 2 needs more it's teams of 5 people all playing farm-reliant carries who got their character by randoming!
(No seriously. It's happened. 5 Man Hard Carry Random team. Weird thing is we won because we just death balled our entire way across the map.)

I'd be up for some games of this. Very vague idea of what to do.

    This was a help.

I'm willing to give this a go - i've a month and a bit of experience from LoL behind me but unsure how well that translates.

    i'm around most nights.

So long as it's only the basics and not the nuances of LoL, you'll do well enough. You know the rough concept already. Only real difference between the two is there's no AP, spells cost more but do more, much more crowd control in Dota 2 and things are more reliant on team work.

A shiny penny if you make a guild called "Eurogamer Scrubs" :)

Try to stay away from the acronym EG though, lest any EvilGeniuses fanboys out there get a bit funny!

I'd like to join some sessions - I have a week of no-missus from today as it happens - but I only just joined the download queue. I wonder how long it takes from 59,433 ?

This is a quality idea, every game should have a non-wanker area. Had to google what MOBA meant a couple of days ago so I'd say I'm firmly in the noob camp, how can I get hold of an invite?

Or as I've just found out, how do I convince 60255 people to leave a queue...

@Bloggins and anyone else stuck in the download queue.

[s]I've got a metric fuck ton of invites left. Add me to Steam via the group and I'll give you one.[/s]

Scrap that, turns out I lost them when the game went full release.

    Bah.

Have the game but hearing about the community makes me nervous. Will try playing with eurogamer folks to see how it goes. I probably can play on the weekends. Joining the steam community also.

Community really isn't as acidic as people make out. No worse than any other competitive multiplayer game.

Guys, I went ahead and created a guild by the name "Eurogamer Scrubs" (EuGaS for short [also read as "Europium Gallium Sulfur"] - could not obviously use EGS)

My steam name is CloisterBlack, add me (with a message that it's about the Dota 2 guild) so that I can add people, and then you can also add people.

By the way, throw your suggestions for a guild message.
