The Nokia 515 is the first attractive Nokia (non-smart) phone I've seen - I always hated the look of their mobiles - but then it *does* look like Sony-Ericsson's phones did in 2000. :p

    Indeed.

Don't forget much better battery life as well, though.

Essentially, a smart phone before smart phone was a thing. Nowadays, a smart phone is a type of feature phone, and a feature phone is a low to mid range phone with a small colour display and an old school button pad. i.e. candy phones.

    Nokia 301:

    Is it still Symbian?

Either way... fuck Nokia. Got stung on the last few terrible iterations.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

a Nexus a day keeps the apple away

Interesting but not surprising that they'd have their own closed versions of applications. You can still use other third party or open apps.

    Well, this is kinda strange.

All the tech sites were harping on the last couple of weeks about an event today, and how they'll cover it live. Now it's time, they're all acting like it doesn't exist.

Which lead me to believe it was all a bogus story and they're quietly pretending they didn't fall for it.

But then the official @googleplay twitter account just posted this:

    @crashVoodoo Good read, cheers.

I can't blame them really, seeing what others do to Android (TouchWiz I'm looking at you). On the other hand, after reading that, it seems that Google have a big part in that.

Still, best thing would be if SAmsung, Sony et al dialed back their own fluff so that they could update as fast as possible when new versions are out.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Turned out it was some guy from geek.com misinterpreted an invite to a night out as a press event. He has a good rep so everyone ran with it

Perfect timing. My second HTC is going mental. Never going back to them. They've both been rubbish.

Hope someone has it in stock tomorrow on the high street, it'll be my only chance to buy one, and my desire is on its last legs.

What's the best places to try apart from carphone warehouse?

    That hands-on mentions this:

Speaking of rendering, the old bugbear of Android has always been scrolling performance. Especially in Chrome, there's always been a sense of lag that seemed completely out of place on top-tier devices. On the Nexus 5, we're very sad to report that the situation doesn't seem any better. There is still not a one-to-one relationship between your finger and the screen, and it's still crazy-making.
Any Android / Nexus users care to comment on this? When I bought the first Galaxy Note a few years ago, I noticed that it was a little laggy sometimes when scrolling and thought it was awful for a brand new phone that was one of the most powerful on the market. What's up with this? I really want to switch from my clunky old original iPhone 4...but stuff like this puts me off.

Chrome is sometimes quite laggy on both the Nexus 4 and 7, in my experience.

It definitely does not. And don't expect to find one on future Google products. Not while they're pushing for the cloud.
