The joy of this is that it can now only ever be a disappointment.

No the joy of it is that it'll be great and console owners will still whinge that it's not on their platform of choice.

And this is why I don't do crowd funding.

I'd feel physically sick if I paid money to something and they kept dragging the development out. I like a rough idea of when I'm getting gods I pay for.

    Still looks good tho.

Isn't it already headed for consoles?

To be fair, it's not like this doesn't happen with PC owners - Red Dead Redemption being a good example.

Really looking forward to this; I've not played anything similar to it since Freelancer and it'll probably be the game I upgrade my PC for (and I imagine a few others will, too).

It uses the Crysis engine, which is a great choice as it scales really well for all sorts of hardware, you might not get all the bells and whistles on an intel 3000, but ludicrously you can still play it with one.

Oh what the fuck, it just passed 32 million and hit yet another stretch goal. Don't these idiots realise what they're doing?

    Sadly I'm still using a Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz.

I'm due an upgrade anyway - that CPU is the highest my motherboard will accept and it won't take DDR3 RAM either, not to mention the MB itself is pretty poor.

Can't complain when I've had a good five years out of it and it still runs most stuff at 1080/60 at full whack. If I knew how to overclock I might have got a little more life out of it.

The hype around this is going to be, forgive the pun, astronomical.

I fucking love freelancer. Apart from that guy in the alien looking ship I met within 5 mins of going online with it. Cunt blew me right up and I only said hello.

    Plenty to run as an emulator/mid gamer/file server/torrent box/XMBC theater/Quake 2 server/etc though.

No doubt - I may keep this one 'as is' anyway as I'm tempted to do my first self-build instead of an upgrade when the time comes.

Ah I should have paid more attention to that story. Fair enough.

Get a decent HSF on there and overclock it, it's almost obscene to have a Q6600 running at default clock speed!

My current PC (a C2Q9400@3.2) most certainly won't run SC when it comes out either but I won't have this for that much longer as my long overdue upgrade will happen long before it comes out.

I'm also a console gamer as well but every time the game comes up in a news thread the port begging happens and it's bloody annoying, no matter how much logic or the fact Chris Roberts will not bend in what he wants to deliver seems to get through to some people.

Oh and Red Dead Redemption really would have been nice on PC I'm sure, shame PC only gamers never got to experience it.

I don't know the first thing about overclocking though.

Any tips or guides you could point me towards? I've glanced at a few online and it doesn't seem that difficult yet I'm still wary of messing around myself due to being a total beginner and relying on this PC for various other things.

I wouldn't bother, personally. What little extra you can squeeze out of it will take far more effort than it's worth. I wouldn't write it off though, it's long in the tooth, but it's not completely defunkt yet.

Assuming it doesn't need extra cooling google is as good a place as any, there are even youtube tutorials https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kf_hSIpa0A

    @Dirtbox

Thanks for the advice - I'll take a look at that video.

It already has an after market cooler (due to me being cautious) so I really have no excuse not to have a crack at least.

Just do it in small steps but you shouldn't have too many problems getting a noticeable boost in speed. It won't make it Star Citizen ready or anything though! :-P
