Quite stunning teaser trailer for the game which sadly is quite a way off (2014). Single player offline, co-op and multiplayer for those who care. I want it. I want it now. I've been waiting for a non-MMO space sim since coming back to PC land. I want it.

Hmmm, reading some more about it and it seems it actually is an MMO :(

Hope there is enough in this single player campaign to justify a purchase otherwise this thing built me up just to tear me down. A year or two to wonder and dream I guess.

    @THFourteen

Well it's not all bad at least there is a single player campaign. I guess we just have to wait and see if it will be worth it for the single player alone.

Just because it has an MMO element, shouldn't put you off. People always associate WoW-a-likes with MMO, but that's just one model and has been repeated to death due to WoW's popularity, but there's plenty more scope in the concept it's just not being experimented with by the big publishers.

Roberts has made great games in his time and this looks like it'll be absolutely amazing.

I thought this looked ace, until MMO was mentioned. I value solo play foremost to be honest.

I have a golden ticket for this for early sign-up (about a month ago). I think I get golden spaceships... I'm thinking it's going to be privateer online essentially, which suits me just fine.

Signed up to this a while ago, looked interesting then, looks great now. I don't even mind the MMO aspect because the guy is a genius.

According to some bit on their info pages (actually saw this on RPS) it'll support every input: k+m, joysticks, pads. But a joystick will probably be the most natural control type.

I'm trying to justify going for the 48 pledge...

They are pushing for 1 million funding by 6pm GMT tonight. Any who pledge get extra credits for a spiffy targeting array or fluffy dice.

I feel embarrased to be so excited by this but still: 3.5M$ will unlock cockpit decorations! \o/

Just watched the video on the main website and in the single player after you've finished the main campaign you can go about on your own free will and explore the universe and be a trader, bounty hunter etc.

    I'm in.

Is it supposed to be like this?

About 60.000$ left to the 4M$ mark. Judging by the current rate they should make it in the next few hours.

Nine and a half hours to go, 35k$ left to the 5.5M$ mark that will unlock a carrier. There's also another record-breaking stretch goal for 6M$: 100 star systems, a full orchestral score, first Squadron 42 mission disk available for free for all backers.

Roberts already made history, it's the most successful crowdfunding project to date, surpassing Project Eternity both in total pledges and number of backers. He set the expectations insanely high, hopefully he'll deliver.

They're asking for $37 just to secure a digital copy of the game on Kickstarter now. Isn't that self defeating? I'd rather wait for the retail/etail release which isn't going to be too much more than that.

I guess that's what I get for being a Johnny-come-lately. Ah well, at least it's getting made.

Less than two hours to go, only 43k$ left to the final 6M$ stretch goal. This might just be a phenomenal ending, I didn't expect Star Citizen to get over 500.000 USD in pledges on the final day.

edit: The Kickstarter campaign just passed 2M$, four times the original goal.

edit2: Aaaand Star Citizen just reached 6 million USD.

That must make it the most pledged crowd funded game so far. Maybe ever.

Managed to sneak in on one of the $30 digital only pledges today after someone obviously upgraded.

I do find the whole "gouge your supporters as much as possible" approach to kickstarter a bit distasteful. I mean it's clearly effective, but I wonder how many people will regret all those ship upgrades in the cold light of day over the next couple of years.

Caved and chucked $40 at it was looking more and more like the game that I've been waiting for for a good while. More pre-alpha stuff on the way over the next few months so looking forward to some nice wee surprises in the new year.

$23.2 million raised so far, bit mad.

I really want to throw lots of money at it despite it not existing in any appreciable form.

They could really do with stopping the feature creep and just get on and finish the thing.

The constant stretch goals and the like are starting to feel someone putting micro transactions on Molyneux promises.

They've reached 31 mil, just a couple of weeks after hitting 29. Yet another stretch goal achieved and quite frankly I'm sick of it. At this rate with all these stretch goals, the game is never going to come out. It'll just stay in development forever, raking in billions a day.

At this rate it'll be the costliest game ever made, will run on 2% of machines and take you three hours to perform a pre-flight check.
