Think I've had a realisation over the last week or so that beat 'em ups are just not for me.

I don't have the time to learn all the moves, I find them too restrictive, playing online isn't always a pleasant experience and I just don't find them as fun as I think I should.

I'm not terrible at them and I do try and play them properly, but yeah, not for me really. Thankfully I've only rented them as of late.

    You?

Football games. They've just evolved (especially controll wise) since the last football game I was into (SWoS) that I can't get into them.

There is literally no genre I avoid more than sports, both real sports and the videogame variety. I just cannot find anything even remotely enjoyable about them.

Anything revolving around the military tends to put me to sleep as well; it's just too dull, dreary and formulaic. Fallout New Vegas was much less fun than Fallout 3 simply for the inclusion of a huge military presence.

The only beat'em up I can play is Street Fighter 2 or 2: Turbo. There's not a ridiculous amount of characters and the moves are easy enough to remember that you can practice with most characters without having to 'study' them.

As for RTS games, i'm not the biggest fan, but I like 'lite' titles such as Anno on the Wii.

I never used to get on with those top down, scrolling shoot'em ups either, but the 3DS has taught me to love Xevious and Twinbee like I did Xenon 2. :)

Sports games of all kinds, racing games without weapons and certain types of indie games where there's no game just story, Dear Esther for example.

I generally dabble with most genres but a few leave me cold.

Like the OP I simply do not enjoy 1 on 1 fighters anymore. They are just overly complicated and I sit in a position where I am better than my mates but get destroyed online.

I like arcade racers but I rarely play simulation racers. They just seem pointless to me.

Also never seen the point of sports games. I generally enjoy them when I try them but I have only bought 2 in the last 10 years.

Never tried a dating sim. No idea what the appeal is. Same applies to The Sims.

Another one for not getting on with beat 'em ups. I still buy the occasional one thinking I'll enjoy it as I did when I was younger but the complexity and depth just puts me off nowadays, just too much for my ageing mind to cope with.

    RTS
    Beat-em ups
    Schmups (reflexes gone)
    Driving games

I tend to avoid sports games these days, but used to love swos, the US Gold(?) games series etc

Call me a heretic by all means, but I also tend to avoid platformers for the most part. Some are ok, but I have no patience for precision-jumping etc these days. Hence my not finishing 'splosion man yet.

I really respect top of the line 1 on 1 fighting game players. I 'm wank at playing them like but I'm quite good at theory fighter and frame counting.

RTS and anything involving combos that require 3 milliseconds to input.
  • Deleted user 7 October 2012 17:22:17
Rock Band-esque rhythm games. They just baffle me senseless.

And twitch online shooters (CoD, Halo, Battlefield etc). No interest whatsoever.

Fighting games can be good. The problem is that the very vocal fans hop up and down any time single player stuff is added and say nobody plays these games for single player. It's a self fulfilling prophecy and they have all gradually turned dull as a consequence.

If it is done correctly in game, it is awesome, (first 3 SC, Theif 3, Hitman)shame of it is, is that so many games put it in, when it has no place in their game, so it has lazy design and does not work.

Hack 'n' Slash games. Bayonetta, DMC, Ninja Gaiden and all the rest of that crap can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. No amount of 'style' can make up for the fact that they are really boring, endlessly repetitive shite fests in my eyes.

Strategy (Real time or turn based), JRPGs, Sport sims, or Tower Defense games all bore me to tears.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.
