@Chopsen The difference is in the game. But whoever is playing is a person who enjoys gaming. I don't like the same games my brother does, but it doesn't mean he's any less of a gamer than I am.
Less of a gamer in what sense? I know you said is "not less of a gamer" but for that to mean something, saying "less of a gamer" has to mean something. So what do you mean by that?

    @Chopsen

It's a very sensible question in a vacuum, but in the context of this site, and in the context of the world in general, it loses a bit of its relevance. As far as I can tell, the principal rule is "You don't think what I think, therefore you are an idiot".

Okay, let me try and explain. For me, the word gamer implies somebody who enjoys playing games. I don't care what kind of games, I don't care what genre, I don't care what platform. As opposed to those who think someone who only plays casual games shouldn't be called that. Nothing more, nothing less.

And with that, I have to take my leave. Thank you for the debate, it was fun! ^u^

Why make your own definition of a word when there already is one?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamer

While the term nominally includes those who do not necessarily consider themselves to be gamers (i.e., casual gamers),[1] it is commonly used to identify those who spend much of their leisure time playing or learning about games.

Well, you can define terms as you like. But you can't argue for something by referring to terms that have arbitrary definition of your own choosing, and can't expect people to agree with how you define a term just because you say so.

So the point is that there are different kinds of gamers, and for certain types of gamers women in skimpy clothing sells to them. Some women make a living by doing this.

Similarly, attractive men are used in marketing if the target demographic happens to be women.

I guess you can argue that more ugly people should be used in advertising so as to be more inclusive, but I think anyone who adopted that policy would have a short career.

M&S tried that with some plus-sized women being naked, but too many people threw up every time the advert was on.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

Because for me a gamer is a person who plays games, whether casual or not. A reader is someone who reads books, either fiction or non fiction. It's that simple for me.

My 'fallacy' is that I don't go around pointing fingers and saying 'You're not a REAL gamer'. And you know what? I'm kinda proud of that.
Your fallacy is in taking pride in a non-point that nobody cares about. It's not your fault you're not down on the nomenclature.

But then, Evolution is just a theory.

I assumed everyone rushed to disable avatars, sigs and smilies the second the update appeared. Was that just me?

I think you missed that your xbl score is so tiny that it begs the question "why put it on a sig"? :)

    Even my sister's got 47k

Having just turned sigs on for a sec out of idle curiosity to see what everyone's talking about, that number is how many actual achievements, not the total score.

    Still fugly and needless though.
