Ah sorry Glen, I thought SoR was an ongoing thing Blizzard did these days. I haven't done one for years so assumed I'd have a few in the bank.

Some time before xmas. The game just went friends & family alpha to closed beta (with no NDA).

I'm guessing it'll be late November.

    @Roddles

Excellent, should have guessed though, aren't most of the expansions released about that time of year?

Anyway, looking forward to getting back into the world after a 12 month break.

This one has legs. And no, it won't got FTP anytime soon.

It's Blizzard's biggest revenue source and remains so despite the large fall in numbers over the past few years, so no, I highly doubt it will be going FTP anytime soon.

But WoD is going to be a make or break expansion for many.

If it really is just more of the same with a new coat of paint then I can see it loosing even more players who have just grown tied of the same formula re tweaked with each and every expansion.

Even the Garrison stuff sounds too little, too late from what we have seen so far, but as someone who has played WoW since vanilla, I'd love to be proved wrong and find WoD to be a breathe of fresh air that rejuvenates the game.

WoD is definitely doing to be make or break for me. Having subbed since May 2005 in vanilla, I really didn't get on with Mists of Pandaria and have pretty much been unsubbed since a few months after it launched.

It's the last chance to recapture the feel of the first two expansions.

The first Everquest is still going strong and is still get expansions. Don't think we can count Ultima thourgh as that has changed so much. Total guess work but might be released 1998.

Known as 'Sharzam' in 98.5% of games

4 or 5 of us normally run old raids once a week just as a glorified background to skype chat - in the last 2 resets, Mimeron's Head, Smoldering Egg of Millagazor and Invincible have all dropped... o_o

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Been playing since vanilla, been unsubbed for most of MoP but do have a few 90's. Am unsubbed at the moment, just waiting to see if WoD is any good, having been admittedly a bit underwhelmed at the announcement at Blizzcon. If this expansion isn't better than MoP then I'll retire for good.

My biggest fear for WoD are the changes to casters and the removal of so much cc. All because of pvp. Now I do a lot of pvp and there are many things which are broken about it in MoP, but that has more to do with stupid amounts of stats/damage than anything else.

MoP, for me, was a nice change for casters and mobility. Added a new level of fun to the game. Now Bliz are removing it all and setting the playstyles back to a vanilla/tbc style. Damage and playstyles from vanilla would be fine but classse had reasonable degree`s of cc which allowed for skillful play to shine. Lack of cc just makes it the same as MoP (zerg someone down asap) but removes the cc aspect. Soudns dull so far. I dont think steps backwards like this are good for the game as its not ever going to recapture the vanilla feel by making gameplay similar to then.

MMO`s should evolve over time. Not regress to "happier days" as they can never be the same.

I'm currently streaming the Warlords of Draenor beta if anybody's interested. 720p, 60fps. Lovely.

Frostfire Ridge is rather pretty looking, as is the new Tauren model.

How are you finding the beta? What are the quests like? Same old or have they added anything even slightly fresh?

I'm not even sure I can be arsed re-subbing for WoD. Interested to hear your thoughts rodders. If it really is just killing x of y with new skins, get to the cap and then queue for dungeons to get gear to queue for the next dungeons, I don't think I'll bother.

Quests are the same old, but there's some nice UI improvements that make it less of a chore. The intro questline is bloody brilliant.

The zones are great. You can really tell it's been designed with ground mounts in mind.

I'm really enjoying the beta so far. I'm leveling an Alliance character now to see Shadowmoon Valley. Have a watch at http://twitch.tv/rodpad

To be honest WoW is never going to be anything other than that.
