Really? so zones are now instanced? :S
Most of them were when I was last playing. I really enjoyed it personally. Busy zones and low level pvp can be a lot of fun.

What completely sucked any kind of fun out were that the chances of running into the same person twice was slim to none. No long standing grudges or anything like that. Shite.

Yeah I used to love that. I remember when everything was server based, even the BGs. You would get to know the key characters and the best players on each faction. People would get a reputation and become small scale celebs.

Conversely, I'm currently leveling a new guy, 64 and I could count the amount of people I've seen on one hand. Only one of which was any where near my own level and faction, and he was way back in Silverpinewotsit.

Aye, I enjoyed this. We had certain people become the bete noir of the whole server, or infamous for performing some very cheeky act (tagging Azuregos and scarpering with the loot after it got zerged, for one), or well-liked for helping all and sundry. Running into them was fun: and you did. In BGs you ran into many of the same people, and you feared some and cackled with glee at the sight of others. It really added to the experience.

I had one nemesis: a Tauren warrior called Endbringer. He was my foe, and many times he slayed me. I got so mad at him.

Anybody remember Nuzgal from DMF? He was legendary for being the server idiot.

It's only the low level (ie less populated) zones and it's seamless. You don't go through a portal; it just happens. You just see people from other realms like you do in battlegrounds with their server tag in their name.

    Yes.

The Battle Chest (which can be bought for 4.99 directly from Blizzard online) includes Classic, The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, along with 30 days playtime.

You'll need to purchase Cataclysm too.

You literally only need Mists of Pandaria and Cataclysm for the 80-90 content. All previously exclusive races and classes are now available to all accounts regardless of what expansions they have bought.

@Roddles 4.99 still seems cheap but only 30 days and still needing 1 more expansion is kinda off putting.

Is this not free to play now, or is that just up to a certain level?

Yeah, if I were you, go and play the starter edition which is totally free to play, level up to 20 (which is the limit in the free edition) and see how you feel.

I'll tell you now, you really do need IRL friends or a social guild for the game to be enjoyable.

If you've never played WoW before, go for it. It get's a lot of flak now a days, but it is in all honesty one of the best and most ambitious games of the past 10 or so years. The game is just in desperate need of some massive changes now a days, especially for people who have been with it since the very beginning.

They also need to fucking update Outland which is currently the worst aspect of the game.

No, you'd need to buy Cataclysm and MoP before you can be a Panda.

Yeah, as soon as I've hit 58 on each character I've thought "oh fuck, 10 levels in Outland". Can't stand the place.
Yeah and I've always wanted to level a Death Knight... but I give up by the time I get to level 60 as I just can't face plobbing through the outdated content that just isn't fun anymore. Even with all the exp cuts they have made to 58-68 it still doesn't make the process any more fun.

I find it bemusing why they haven't made it a priority to bring Outland 'up to date' in all honesty. Unless they are planning to do something with it in the next expansion... which would just be lazy.

It's the one aspect of the game which they so far haven't redesigned to make questing more fun and less of a grind. So it really drags the game down when leveling characters.

Arriving in Howling Fjord after all that will be even better, though.

    Amazing, amazing game.
