    I know there isn't a monthly sub but will there be an upfront cost for this?

    That's better than expected. I was willing to pay full price for this...

    If I download the beta now, will I have to redownload the full game again on the 20th?

    Also have five new beta-invite keys if EGer's want them, pm and I'll send it over.

    Starting to look pretty good now, balancing is finally approaching a good state, performance is better and lots of guns etc added. Rather looking forward to this going live so I can earn certs for keeps, dreading the wipe somewhat (my pimp scythe/lib/mag, noooo).

    Good time to test the waters imo.

    There are still a lot of issues. It could use another six month in the oven I think. However... if they fix the Cert gain/cost situation (which is just so broken right now) and decide on a capture mechanic and stick with it, it'll be playable and the rest can be patched. Those to core things, however, really need to be right for launch.

    The tug of war mechanic seems to work quite well, and it feels (subjectively) that the performance is much better now.

    Not sure what the current issues are with Cert gain/cost? Is everything too expensive?

    They've definitely bumped up the graphical content within each performance bracket. Overall, I think this'll definitely be in a decent state for launch, but there's certainly a lot more to come.

    Cost is pretty much what all the sperg is about. To me they seem reasonable now - half the community spent months bitching about the loss of character specialisation, and now Certs cost enough (for most of the higher tier equipment; basic stuff is still reasonable imo e.g sights etc) that we'll actually have to specialise to be effective. They get what they wanted, then fucking moan about it! Facepalm.

    Those people need to reflect on the fact that some people, some where, paid 30 for a space-monocle.

    As an Alpha Squadder I think I'm going to wait before spending too much station cash. I'd like it to settle in to minimise the chances of buying something that gets all nerfed to hell.

    Although, if they do implement a "re-cert" option, so you can spec out of something and try something else that would be very helpful.

    Good point MikeP. I am worried they'll do that, because balance on some stuff (air and aa) remains stupidly wonky.

    Why is everyone bitching about the new recoil mechanic on the forums? It actually seem to be a lot better now...

    Air and AA are a load better balanced now, or at least they were before the patch the other day. Not tried it since, but Air was survivable, yet still vulnerable. The primary enemy of aircraft should always be other aircraft, not ground-based flak.

    @orpheus Sorry but i disagree with you entirely. If a LIGHT plane comes to close to a Skyguard it should get shredded, not fly away with half it's armour intact after it's been able to hover spam his missile.

    Hover spam=dead plane,or at least it should be.

    @overcorpse Problem with that notion is that it makes air useless, like it has been until recently. If an ESF or Lib has to die to get a shot off, there's no point flying them. As things stand now, you can get a shot off - but if you hoverspam around any AA, you get forced away very quickly. Even a single burster or skyguard is enough to force a pilot to evade or escape to avoid destruction; two or three of them still tear even a heavily certed Lib a new one.

    Granted I've not tried the newest patch yet, but the last major one really improved air balance without obsoleting either AA or aircraft, which is how it needs to be if both are to remain viable.

    @orpheus But that there is the problem. It may force away the plane away, but that plane has still been able to launch it's payload, rack up his kills and XP and survive whilst the guy running the the AA gets nothing. It should not take more than one AA asset to "drive a plane away"

    If you want to be a Tank killer then that should be the Liberators job, want to murder infantry again the Liberator.ESF's should be clearing the skies for the Liberators not doing it's job.

    If they aren't going to give the ESF a health nerf then they should in my opinion take away it's hover ability. Then they should Sort out the flare nonsense with regard to G2A missiles because that is a joke.At the end of the day they are a light plane doing the job of their heavier counterpart and that makes them OP.

    I have a feeling the answer is no, but does anyone know if there's any way to download the game before release? I know that you have to un-install the beta client thanks to the official twitter, but it doesn't look like there's a way to download it just now.

    Might lead to some issues on launch day, though at least it'll be on Steam straight off :)

    Is this on steam then? Can I start adding people off this lovely thread to my steam friends list? I imagine its like battlefield where it isn't much fun solo but brilliant as part of a squad

    It'll be on Steam on the 20th - there's already a page for it counting down that's currently at 1 day 19 hours. As for solo, the game gives you the tools to jump into a squad of randoms if you like, and generally I've found that the clear signposting towards common goals keeps it at least a bit enjoyable.

    That said, in a squad of friends is lots more fun :)

    There'll be a proper outfit too, combined of people from a few sites, so once it's up and running properly, we'll get ourselves organised!

    So its possible to set up groups within the game? That would be perfect. Do people use mics or is comms done via the keyboard?

    You have to redownload the game. You must unistall the beta before you do so. I suspect that Steam will be slow to get the files up (I bet they'll do it US time)... so you might be best checking tomorrow morning on the PS2 site to see if they get them on their for EU time (or maybe really late tonight).

    You can use a keyboard but try that during a firefight... get yourself a headset. I don't like using them either but it makes the game about a million times more fun.

    Any idea if you bunch of losers are still going Barney at launch? I can't stand their weapons... I can do either of the other sides though. Plus purple is for wimps.

    I've certainly had my fill of the Covenant-coloured bunch, so was hoping for another faction. No idea what everyone else wants though.

    Do you have to select a side at the start then? I'm assuming barney is one of the factions...?

    I have a headset, just have to figure out how to use the mic on the pc rather than the 360

    Barney = Vanu
    Elmo = Terran
    Smurf = NC

    I fucking HATE the NC music because it's so damn childish, but otherwise they're a great faction with the best looking vehicles and the most accurate medium range weapons. They were also grossly overpopulated in beta so I expect them to be underpopulated in live.

    The TR are always my preference (because they have regal music and the best helmets!) but frankly their vehicles are disappionting and their weapons high rate of fire does not make up for medium range inaccuracy (because you're dead before the high rate of fire matters) which sort of frustrated my sit back and shoot play style (not a sniper, but I prefer to whittle away at long range).

    So I'm swinging heavily towards NC at the moment, even if their faction shotgun is a bit rubbish.

    Another question... NA or EU servers? Once you sign up, you're stuck with ir. It's worth remembering that the EU servers are being run by someone else - bad thing - and will be full of Russians. On the other hand, less action at peaks times on the US servers because they'll be asleep.

    Server list:

    US West:
    Connery
    Genudine

    US East:
    Mattherson
    Waterson

    EU:
    Woodman
    Miller

    Australia:
    Briggs

    Hearing from various places that the big outfits are all hitting Miller in the EU, so that seems like a good place for an organised scrap.

    Also on the EU accounts, quote from elsewhere; "As you already have a beta account you can decide to either stay a SOE customer (your can still play on EU and US servers) or to migrate your account to Pro7Games. Everyone that enters the game from launch does not have a choice and has to create a Pro7Games account."

    I can't wait for this :) I know, it's only been off for a few days, but I stopped playing weeks ago so I'd not burn out on it before release. Lots has changed since I was last on, like pain fields and this tug of war capturing. Plus we'll be able to buy stuff!

    Hope the pricing is okay. I don't think there was any sample pricing on, and some games can get quite greedy. The other games I've played have been generally reasonable enough.
