Seeing as Remote Play (finally) seems to be picking up some pace, I thought it worth creating a dedicated thread...

    What is it?
Remote Play allow you to link your Vita with your PS3 to play certain PS3 titles on your Vita - effectively streamed over wi-fi from your PS3 to your Vita.

    Wikipedia Link

    Which games can I play?
All PSOne games (whether on disc or downloaded from PSN can be played using this method, although now that the Vita is PSOne compatible, it's less important. In terms of PS3 games, we currently have:

    - Bionic Commando Rearmed
    - God of War HD (both disc and PSN download)
    - God of War 2 HD(both disc and PSN download)
    - Ico HD (both disc and PSN download)
    - PixelJunk Eden
    - PixelJunk Monsters
    - PixelJunk Shooter
    - Retro/Grade
    - Shadow of the Colossus HD (both disc and PSN download)
    - Tokyo Jungle

Hopefully more will be announced/released, with the potential for existing games to be patched to add in this capability - as with Ico/SotC HD and GoW HD Collection .

    Sadly, PS2 games don't currently work :(

    Anything Else?
If playing games isn't your thing, you can also use the PS3 remotely via your Vita (or PSP) to do things like access the PS Store or use PlayTV. Also (Thanks Mrpon)
    - Photos stored on a NAS
    - Music stored on a NAS (Music Unlimited doesn't work)
    - Videos stored on a NAS
    - Vidzone
    - ITV Player
    - 4OD

    Blu-Rays or DVDs won't work

    Please shout if I've missed

It's really so much more than for playing games, though. What about just using the PS3 remotely via the Vita?

Oh, and didn't Lair work over remote play on the PSP? I'd say there is at least a chance it still works on the PSV.

Streaming videos works a treat over RP as well, also PlayTV for watching live TV.

Just to be clear on the original post, it's the PS3 HD Collection versions of GoW and ICO/SotC that are supported.

Add Bionic Commando Rearmed cause I just played it on my Vita via Remote play.

Sadly, in my opinion, I don't think the overall service has improved since psp days. It's pretty laggy.

Wow Retro/Grade on remote play is bloody awful. The lag just kills it!

I played FFVII from start to finish via remote play and loved it for several reasons. Set up was via Internet so when round my mum's i could connect to her internet and play, it saved the TV which when grinding i could actually do something else instead of falling asleep halfway through, it looked better on the Vita than the TV. I also found there was little lag. Some admittedly but not enough to matter imo

I think games like FFVII would be perfect, but something which is faster-paced just doesn't seem to work as well.

    Anyone tried GoW??

My post from the main thread:

Had a quick play around with the now supported God War Collection on the PS3 via Vita Remote Play. I had the PS3 disc version so it initially required me to start the game on the PS3 to download the 39MB patch.

Some plus points, it looks and sounds fabulous. I took some very crappy shots with Image Quality on +1 and -1 so you can see the difference. Pics don't do it justice, it literally is PS3 in your pocket. Those pics were actually took during Internet Remote Play, I couldn't see any discernible difference compared with Private Remote Play. My connection is alright at 10MB so ymmv. I noticed the occasional slowdown but nothing too major, I guess this is to be expected.

Negative points, it unavoidably uses the rear touch for LS2-3 & RS2-3. I can see me firing off my god attacks accidentally or failing on some the QTEs because of this.

I can totally see me playing some of this on holiday (internet speed dependent) as the remote switching on of the PS3 works with a charm. ICO/SotC I'm guessing runs even better, less going on etc.. Here's hoping for more support.

@Zackv4861 - no, but I believe you can use the Vita as a controller (instead of a DS pad). Not tried it though...

To be honest, games like that are better with Private Remote Play (i.e. direct connection between the PS3 and Vita/PSP - yes, Retro/Grade RP does support PSP too). Turn based games would be very good with Remote Play over the Internet. Just too bad that it hasn't really caught on.

A few other things that haven't been mentioned that work over RP:

    - Photos stored on a NAS
    - Music stored on a NAS (Music Unlimited doesn't work)
    - Videos stored on a NAS
    - Vidzone
    - ITV Player!
    - 4OD

    Enjoy!

I'm just pissed you can't rp the store :'(

You could on the old one and it was great for starting dl's and purchasing at work so it's ready for when you get home.

What about buying it online on a PC (https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-gb/home/main) then RP-ing to your download list to start the download? Not tried it, but it sounds feasible.

I'll give that a go. Should work as I'm sure there's a download list in account management. Cheers :-)

It might just start downloading when you do the RP switch on? But yeah, failing that start the download manually.

    Keep us posted!

Edit: bummer, doesn't work. During RP the Account Management section isn't listed.

BBC iplayer also works as long as you use the big screen version via the PS3 web browser rather than the app on the xmb.

4OD never works properly for me though, doesn't seem to resize correctly or something, and so gets confused once you try and click on a show.

Was playing Pacman DX on PS3 last night, there is a game crying out for Vita remote play. Or to be released on Vita.

40D on the ps3 is an utter abomination.

40D just crashes during adverts on my PS3. It's heartbreaking.

I'll be honest with you, even if it worked, I couldn't be doing with all those adverts.

Just downloaded God of War HD as part of PS+, and it says it's not compatible with remote play. :-(

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

    @ElNino9

I just got that as well, all you need to do is run the game and it will update allowing you to use remote play. It's only a small patch, about 3.5mb so you won't be waiting long.
