We can settle this by renaming the contest to "English Sports Personality of the Year". Then Murray's only eligible if he starts losing.

It is pretty much only Scottish people that like Murray though mate.
    Or in my case,

    - People that actually follow tennis ALL YEAR ROUND
    - People that play it regularly themselves
    Oh, you're one of them.

Murray has done stuff that hasn't been achieved in a long time. But he's still an uninspiring figure and there are far more worthy contenders for the prize.

Wiggins for one. Worth noting he's done stuff that hasn't been achieved in a long time too.
Also worth noting that the Tour only takes place once a year while Murray has four chances every year to win a major.
there's more than one major annual cycle race, I have very little interest in the sport and even I know there's the giro d'italia. i'll stick my neck out and guess there might be some more...?

Tour de France is the Wimbledon of the cycling calendar. See the difference?

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Yeah there's the vuelta too, 3 Grand tours per year, the TDF has by far the most prestige and coverage though.

wow, an english person hasn't won it since 2006!
although to be fair, for the 46 years before that it only went to a non english person twice...

i'm not being facetious there. wimbledon and the tour are the prestige tournaments in both sports, is the giro d'italia maybe a kind of equivalent to the us open? (I genuinely don't know this, i'm just contesting that wiggins has more than one major competition to enter per year as does Murray?)

I'm gonna take a punt of some of the other awards too:

    Overseas: Phelps (could be Bolt)
    Coach: Brailsford
    Team: Ryder Cup

I think its great that Andy Murray has quite a sardonic personality. At least he is real! Im completely sick of fake celebrity so called personalities!!! The Xfactor judge types who are smiley and embrace the public and the media and who are dim! Why would we want our Sports stars to be like that!!

Andy M is funny, sarcastic, takes the piss out of the media and is a slightly awkward star. He is a normal person, thank God.

Wiggins is dull and ginger and uglier!! .... And of course cycling is soooooo boring. As a huge tennis fan, maybe im a bit biased. However because I follow tennis all year round perhaps I am best to give an account of Andy Murray..... Rather than the 2 week tennis fans who hardly watch him and judge him on a few glimpses every year!!

    There Ive said it!

Yep, and you are right, both have a tour calendar with multiple tournaments in them.

My point was that Wiggins won the Tour de France and Murray almost won Wimbledon. And they both got Olympic gold.

And Wiggins has better sideburns and a less terrifying mother.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I know you all love Wiggins, but didn't a cyclist get it last year? My money is on Jessica Ennis or Mo Farah.

Although I hear there are some pretty short odds on Ellie Simmonds.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Wiggins for the win, then Mo Farah, I reckon.

It's voted for by the public after all.

I'd like to see Murray win it, but in the year of the London Olympics, it shall be between Wiggins, Mo-bot and Jessica Ennis.

    ... : )

Andy Murray should win but he wont coz hes not there, hes in Miami! Sick of all the Wiggins "im so down to earth" shit. Even the voice over on his clip had a cockney accent to prove hes "one of us"
