@FabricatedLunatic You'd need to make an omelette first, I'd imagine, then dualise that.

Ah, okay. I wonder why I don't have an omelette, then. Any ingredients that can be dualised into something new are highlighted green, so it's not like it would've been easy to miss...

@FabricatedLunatic If you've ever had an omelette before, even as a random item from a battle or from a chest, and somehow used or sold it, then its ingredients wouldn't be green. Only reason I can think of offhand.

If you want to know the omelette ingredients I think it's egg and tomato. Obviously check to make sure before dualising. :)

    Thanks. I'll figure it out.

What about dualising equipment, though? The tutorials suggest applying a liberal approach to this, and that's what I've been doing, but I have my doubts. By the time I get around to buying new weapons and armour, their stats are generally lower than the multiple dualised ones already equipped. I feel like I'm wasting shards to raise the base stats of equipment only to end up buying new stuff that's not much better, or even worse. But then dualising equipment beyond a certain point starts to become prohibitively expensive, and the upgraded gear sells for a decent price, so I feel like I may as well switch.

Further complicating matters are rare shards that transform bog-standard equipment into unique equipment. I'm never sure how long I should be holding onto those...

Just wondered how you chaps have been dealing with this.

I've been transforming equipment when I have the money/items to do so because I want to get my item book as complete as possible, and try to buy new equipment when it's available for the same reason. Not a terribly great reason to do it, but I do like the % creeping up. :p

Edit: I've avoided playing on it for a bit but you're tempting me to go back on it now! :D

I'm just doing it as much as I can and replacing weapons every other tier at the moment. No idea if that's the right thing to do or not. As far as I can see though, shards aren't unique even if some are rare so experiment away. I get completely confused at the ammount of different qualities etc though.

When Tales of Graces F calls, you must answer.

Every other tier? So you're skipping some weapons? I'm probably giving it all too much thought; the stat differences are mostly negligible and the game isn't difficult the way I'm playing it. The qualities confuse the shit out of me as well :D

I've only just stated using the pot to cook stuff in. I didn't really understand it at first bit it is kind of annoyng as in other Tales game cooking was done by choice this game though it's everytime if there's stuff in the pot unless you don't meet the requirement ofcourse.

I've hardly duelised anything yet just doesn't seem worth it.

You get some very nice equipment for your efforts, and some side-quest items can only be made by dualising (at least as far as I know). Hardly a deal breaker of course, but as a hoarder I feel compelled to mix everything I can my hands on, no matter how much money I burn in the process.

I do like the free food from the mixer. It was always kind of annoying to go grocery shopping after 15 battles in the previous games. On the flipside, I really miss the incidental skits about cooking. Here you get one skit per discovery, one skit every other save point, and that's pretty much it. I wish the game was less predictable. :-(

There are some nice benefits to dualising. As I mentioned before, each time you dualise equipment with a shard it permanently raises the base stats, and that's in addition to the stat bonus or effect from the shard itself.

And then there's the gems that are extracted from two pieces of tempered equipment. Mmm, stats.

...has my stat chatter killed the thread?

About 30 hours in now, the last few of which have been played on Evil difficulty. And it's completely, utterly, crushingly... easy. It's not like I'm even particularly good at the game; most of the time my battles degenerate into something that would charitably be described as the indiscriminate pressing of buttons. I must be over-levelled, or over-titled, or something.

Still no hot springs which is starting to worry me. If it turns out there isn't any, that may well be a first for the JRPG, and more importantly I'll be devastated.

I'm 10 hours in now. Levelling my mixer has proved somewhat useful so i'm glad i did that. I had to play around with my NPC fighters artes as i was getting close to having no titles to levels

@FabricatedLunatic Not exactly a hot springs, but you'll have to look for it later.

Most of my running around in terror trying not to die was later on in the game. (But I might have been under-leveled.)

Yeah well I'm also at around 30h now and enjoying it... but not as much as before I'm afraid. It might just be a temporary lull, but the story has become incredibly boring and the characters have gone into full animeh mode (on my way to the Amarcian library at the moment). My biggest gripe is Evil Dick who has to be the most uninspired bad guy in recent memory. Oh wait, that's actually my second biggest complaint. Worst is that the skits have turned all serious like, with all too rare exceptions. Unless there is some serious Star Ocean 3-magnitude plot twist ahead the game might just fizzle out in a major disappointment.

    /checks dictionary

Ah well, should have just said 'might just end with a major disappointment, as in, me being disappointed in a disappointing ending (which would be somewhat disappointing)'.
  • Deleted user 15 September 2012 13:42:56
No I mean it certainly fizzles out but in quite a wtf way.

I have less a problem with Tricky Dicky than I do with everyone else being seemingly oblivious to his possession and still somehow not realising both that and the mysterious glowy hand thing that Asbel, Hubert, and Cheria have are connected to THAT event from their childhood. I mean, Hubert must have at least a handful of brain cells and should be able put 2 and 2 together.

I'm around where you and agree that the story hasn't really gone anywhere of late, but I'm not being actively annoyed by anything or anyone as yet. Grinding for titles is still as compulsive as ever.

I thought there had been one of those non save-point saves after an important area. I was wrong. Blarg, three boss fights to redo.

Annoying!!! I'm 30 hours in now and am enjoying it. Heading back to Lhant but it's not my favorite Tales game. Not many strong stand out characters

I actually put a lot of time into the game over the weekend and completed both the main quest and the bonus chapter. The writing around the time of the "first" final battle is really poor, nothing but clichéd animé dialogue for the last five hours or so. The bonus content on the other hand is really nice, even though the new dungeons are bloody awful and the new gameplay mechanics they introduce didn't click for me at all. Character development is much better than in the main game though, and the ending is just beautiful.

Overall, not as good as Tales of Vesperia, but certainly a good addition to anyone's RPG library.

Nice to know - I'm looking forward to the future chapter. I'm currently zipping around finishing up sidequests, dualising and whatnot before the present section final area.

Just finished Lara's sidequest - so sad!

I love the old RPG cliche's and this us full of them. Cracks me up. You just don't see them that much in western RPG's.

There's something about these sort of games that click with me. I don't have much time these days to sit and play games on the tele but I put this on last night and spent 3 hours just running between towns fulfilling requests. I didn't level, didn't progress the story, didn't earn any new skills just dualized and ran around. Loved it.

Story wise Hubert has just joined the party and yet I've 5 starred almost 50 titles for everyone, except Hubert. I'm playing on Evil difficulty and bar lowering it for the bosses, it's not challenging. My mixer has about 1500 in it and 9999 seems way too far off.
