I wouldn't use Vanquish as an example to advocate short running length not necessarily meaning you're being short changed. Vanquish is a serious offender, one corridor after another, barely distinguished from the other, the same enemies recycled again and again, that's two pretty important corners cut and it's still a short game.

Furthermore, it's so brutally linear there's zero replay value, and people have the cheek to complain about Uncharted when there out of the way nooks and crannies to find treasures, which is at least minor exploration, I tend to make a point of checking everywhere it occurs to me to look and I still missed an awful lot in every Uncharted game. Vanquish should be the linear corridor game bogeyman, not Uncharted.

At the end Vanquish doesn't even pay off. Haha! You not fight real enemy. You stooopid! Bye!

No wonder Vanquish crashed like a stone and ended up in bargain bins for a pittance in just a few months. Why would I want to run through it again? I can't get a better ending or really do anything I couldn't do the first time. Why did I bother? Was all I was thinking as the credits rolled.

If takes game journalists 2 hours to complete (the main mission), it usually a bit shorter for the average player.

Also it in the four hours they played they completed the game twice plus 2 or 3 (of 5) side missions. A Konami tester did a speedrun of 5 minutes.

Wow, just checked GAME's online price for this.. 39.99.. which will probably end up being 45 quid on their shelves? Jesus.

I'm interested in the game but not anywhere near those prices.

Mmm, 20 is about my limit for a glorified demo. I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin.

Is this going to be 19.99 on the PlayStation 3?

... if the game is of an UNMISSABLE quality, I would not mind paying a penny under a twenty pound note. I quite like the unpredictable craziness of the Metal Gear Solid games, you see!

Lets be honest even if it takes 2 hours to finish it will at least be a better made game than say Rouge Warrior which IIRC took similar length to finish and that game was horrible in every way. MGS games are always quality anyway so why make a big deal over this

I've reversed my stance on this. I'm going to rent it on PS4 and get Infamous instead.

Also if you finish the game in two hours, your completion stat will be around 10%. I think this game length issue is going to be a huge fuss over nothing, you can speed run plenty of games.

For example Ico. No chance anyone would describe that as a rip off despite retailing for the same price on release.

Ah, that explains why it's 30.

29.95 for Ground Zeroes on PS4 or XB1.
Panic over, simplygames have seen sense and reduced the cost by................10p!!!

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Because MGS4 had a disgusting gameplay-to-cutscene ratio, I clocked it on Big Boss Hard on the first playthrough in 18 hours meaning 8 hours of gameplay (I'm pretty sure actual gameplay was less than that since only 2 chapters contained legit gameplay.)

I mean, it's one thing to have excessively long cutscenes but making them so cringeworthy. so fucking melodramatic and just bad overall...

And I have a feeling the side missions are going to similar to those in Peacewalker, just additional objectives along the lines of 'Extract 5 soldiers'.

I'm sure you're probably right, and I hope you are. But I don't get why a dev would say that. Stupid thing to say when you're trying to sell your game. If someone asked me how long it would take to finish my game, I wouldn't give the speed run time.

Our month-long focus on indie games starts with my look at the PS4's best game (still): Resogun!

It's not the first time I've heard the speed run time given when talking about a games length.

Currently playing MGS2. That is 1 part game 2 parts cutscene on average. Last hour I played however had under 10 minutes of game. (It involved meeting the president). I admit I am playing it on very easy though as I am going through it to recap the story. (Played it through on PS2 and Xbox back in the day mind).

I reckon Ground Zeroes will be a similar size to the Tanker on MGS2 which took me around 2 hours. (Of which about 75 minutes is cutscenes / codex).

Ironically wasn't the tanker segment of MGS2 and entire demo itself, free with OPSM2.

To be honest if the side missions are good, and the side stuff is worth it, i might take the plunge. It be kind of cool if you could make and share your own missions set in that compound.

    Comparison video.

Would have to say the PS4 version looks quite significantly better. Supposedly has a better framerate too.

You can get this for just 23.86 on
    PS4
    and
    Xbox One
(for me it's 22.96 as I'm a silver member, I had no idea they did that). I've put a pre-order down but I might end up cancelling what with the amount of games due in March. It has been a long time since I played a MGS game though.

I can see myself getting this if it reviews alright to be honest. I tend to like shorter games these days, and the Shopto price at least seems fair IMO. I'm also more likely to replay it, and I'm often slow to play through games anyway.

Got a 25 voucher for Amazon to burn and saw this was 22 for PS3 edition. Seeing as I still live in the dark ages and only have a PS3, I think it'll be worth picking this up.

Ign reporting that Konami have knocked a tenner off the next gen versions at retail. Same price as digital now - 30.
