I thought I might actually walk away with something in my hand today! They were all useless though. O2 920's are online only and phone's for U were locked into EE/orange. I then had a dull conversation with one of those IM services on the O2 shop - they said they were transferring me to a different dept but that never happened. It's an odd world these days.

The IM guy was called 'Zeon' - He assured me he was a real person and not 'software'. Not sure I believed him!

I left O2 last week for the 920.

Went to 3. Purchased the Lumia 920 for 450 on PAYG and then a 12 month unlimited data plan for 15.90

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Unfortunately for me the only network that penetrates my house is o2.

Any reason you paid 15.90 for 12 month contract ? You can get 1 month sim only for 10. Also not sure on the price 450 for PAYG seams high when could get sim free for that money or less fir recon.

I get double the included minutes on the 12 month contract (600 instead of 300) for all of 90p extra a month :)

The cost of a sim free 920 is 520.

I resisted the impulse to go crazy and splash out for a 920 and instead hold out until the 720 arrives. I did watch some MWC footage to ease my wavering mind and the red 720 with a slapped on white charging cover looks absolutely stunning! Reminds me of this guy!

I know it all sounds a bit shallow but the design pleases me a lot. Can't wait!

Such a lovely phone ... four months on, I am still super happy with my purchase.

As for the chap on the previous page wondering what it's like to go from an iPhone to Windows Phone 8, I had an iPhone 3GS followed by an iPhone 4S, which was replaced by a Xperia S then I finally settled for a Lumia 820.

I like the iPhone as a piece of hardware however, I just got so utterly bored of the iOS ... how many years has it been now since the 'row of icons' look been around? Folks say it is 'easy' and 'seamless' and all that bollocks, but with each new update, things gets buried away and accessibility becomes not quite as friendly as it used to be.

The Xperia S was (and still is) a great phone. Two things killed it for me; the battery life, which was appalling and the 'quirks' of Android were wasted upon me. I am not one to flaff around with these kind of things. The whole media content manager that is admittedly Sony's fault more than Android in general was poor and awkward to use.

Lo and behold, I used O2 Recycle to get an unexpectedly cool 184 back on that phone and decided to buy a Lumia 820, SIM free and with a free wireless charging plate, for 185. Not once have I regretted my decision and I am pleased to say that I have converted three (previous) iPhone users to jump onto the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon ...

    ... : )

Bloody hell the mics on the 920 are good!

I went to see a Led Zep cover band in Putney last night, so I thought I'd test out my phone's video capabilities. As you can imagine, it was bloody loud in there, and I was right near the front, about three feet from the speaker. Unfortunately, the auto-focus seemed a bit dodgy - I think maybe the stage lights were throwing it off. But the sound quality is fantastic, especially considering my proximity to the speaker. If I had done this on my old phone, the audio would be completely blown out and unusable. Here's a couple of short clips.

    Heartbreaker

    Black Dog

I have another video of Dazed and Confused, for which I turned off continuous AF. The video came out a bit sharper, but it was still a bit off. It's too big for Skydrive though, so I might stick it on Youtube later.

EDIT - Here's the Dazed video
    Dazed and Confused

As for the band, they were really good, even if they did lapse into freeform jazz exploration territory a bit too often; Dazed and Confused became a fifteen minute jam, for example.

Does anyone have a shell/case for their 920? I'm just wondering if there are any decent ones out there.

I've already dented the bitch, I don't want to damage it anymore :)

Not very helpful, I know, but I never use cases on my phones, so no :p

Had my Lumia 920 for four months and it's still utterly pristine.

Just started mucking about with my 920 yesterday. Loving it so far. Managed to sort my contacts out with no help from Apple. Got most of the apps that I used regularly on the iphone. Still haven't sorted out music and podcasts yet. The phone communicates with the car just fine. Screen, camera and maps/satnav outstanding. Battery life could be a problem. Beautiful phone to look at.

    Really impressed so far.

Yeah I used the sat nav on mine for the first time this weekend - absolutely stunningly good for something that's free with the phone. Shits all over Google Maps and iOS Maps.

Can anyone recommend a phone charger for the 920 that charges from a car cigarette lighter?

I use the adaptor that charges my satnav; it's a USB convertor so I just plug the micro USB lead into it.

Can I just delete music from Windows Phone via explorer? My music synced across ok from Itunes but I want to drastically reduce the amount and replace it with a smaller playlist. The windowsphone app keeps crashing though.

Yeah - just browse it like you would a USB memory stick and delete the offending files.

By the way, you can use Windows Media Player to sync as well if you want.

    Shitcanned already?!

Edit: shitcanned is probably an exageration but considering what a big deal they tried to make of WP8 it is probably not a good deal to talk about time limited support.

Windows 7.8 is supported until September 2014 and WP7 was yonks ago.

There will likely be an upgrade for WP8 and that new version will be supported far beyond July 2014.

Whether MS release a full upgrade for WP8 when WP9 comes around, that is another matter. Depends when it's out I suppose. Might not even be this year.

I've noticed an odd bug. It might just be my phone but the GPS never locks on if I don't have wifi turned on.

The wifi doesn't have to be connected to a network for the GPS lock to occur though.

    It's pretty odd.

Really loving my 920 and the windows phone OS. It's just so much prettier than IOS. Only reservation I have so far at this early stage is the battery life which seems a bit weak. Think I'll get one of those charging mats.

Iam having a problem where my windows 8 pc isn't talking properly to my phone. I can browse the phone fine when in desktop mode but not on the windows phone app . When i open the app on the start screen i only get the 'on the web' and 'on the store ' options. It is missing the 'on your phone' section but it does detect the phone including the number and name.

As a result i cannot view phone details or sync content without resorting to doing it manually on the desktop. Any ideas, as iam really confused after trying the basics.

I'm still on 7.8, meaning I have to use Zune for that stuff. Is there something more windows 8 that I could perhaps use?
