    I mean, seriously. Fucking colours.
Fucking THIS. It's utterly ridiculous. And Orange seem to have a habit of choosing the more conservative options. Before I got my Omnia 7 in 2010 I had the Omnia HD; there were two variants, 8GB and 16GB. Of course, Orange decided to order only 8GB models.

Heh, we seem to have similar taste in phones. I had both of those two.

w/regards to colours, with WP8 the whole bloody point of offering a range of colours was so that you could match your phone to your style just like you can with the livetile colours and page. To start then making different colours exclusive to different networks just undermines the whole point of offering a range of colours in the first place.

You're not going to tell me you had an LG Viewty once upon a time, are you :D

As for the pics, I don't have a Flickr account I'm afraid. The links seem to be working now, anyway.

I agree about the colours, and I like that other OEMs are starting to offer colourful handsets, too. If only carriers would follow suit.

OK, I'm sold on the low-light differences! Thanks for taking the time to do that.

@Khanivor No problem, it only took a few minutes. I've had the phone for a little over two weeks and it still continues to impress me.

@Khanivor enjoy it when you get it mate, it really is a thing of beauty!

And now you know a couple of people to ask for advice on it if you need a few pointers.

Did you use WP7 at all or are you new to the whole WP OS?

    Same here.

One thing I did find the other day which is a nice touch if, like me, you are endlessly losing your phone down the sides of sofas or leaving it in pockets by accident - if you go on windowsphone.com you can tell it to send a signal to your phone to make beep whether it's on silent or not.

I've never needed to use that, but it certainly is handy. You can also remotely lock it if it gets nicked - I could've done with that a few years back when my LG Viewty got lifted at a Testament gig :(

I don't know if you guys come from WP7 but have you had that bug with purchase history where some apps are missing and some others need to be repurchased? Microsoft is supposedly working on it but it's quite annoying.
Other than that my only complaint is the lack of podcast support outside the US so I hope a developer comes up with an app that's actually good.

I haven't noticed that myself, but then I downloaded and deleted so many apps over the last couple of years (just to try them out) that I probably wouldn't even realise if I had that problem.

Having said that, I was setting up my mum's new phone for her yesterday afternoon and I went to the website to queue up her past downloads, and there was nothing in her history. Not a big deal, as I think the only things she'd ever downloaded were a couple of free games like Bubble Birds, but strange none the less.

Yeah, that's an excellent feature to have (it tracks its location as well doesn't it, IIRC? Sort of a built-in homing device?

Regarding missing purchase history, yeah a few of the games I'd downloaded on Omnia 7 aren't showing on my list. Nothing big, certainly nothing that I'd played recently, but still annoying.

More frustrating to me is that the app store simply doesn't recognise that you've previously purchased something even if you have it on your damn phone. windowsphone.com obviously does, as it lets you redownload it, so why can't the WP8 check in to the site and just download your purchase history from it? Stupid.

A few more low-light comparison shots, because I have nothing better to do. These were taken in a slightly darker room than the ones I did yesterday. Because my room is a pit.

@Fake_Blood Indeed, it was horrifying to find she'd downloaded a couple of match-three games and the odd Adele or Paloma Faith song.

@Ror1984 they're quite noisy but it's to be expected in very dark rooms. I'll do some tests with my girlfriend's Nexus S if she lets me use it and post the results :D

MS plan on releasing an over the air update next month to fix the reboot issue some users are seeing too - funnily enough as I read that news story my 8X rebooted, says it all.

I realise you probably need more than one of these in your house to actually be wire free. I wish I was eligible for a free one.

Yeah it was only because I picked mine up from a EE store. I saw someone on WPCentral saying that EE were offering a free one so I went back in, asking why they didn't give me one when I got the phone. 2 minutes later I walked out with one. I'm on an Orange tariff so it isn't limited to EE 4G contracts.

I don't suppose that'd work for me, given I got it at P4U - I'm guessing they asked for proof of purchase? Not that it really matters, as I've applied for my freebie via the Nokia website, but it'd be nice to 'accidentally' get two :D

Yeah you'd need your proof of purchase :-)

I tried through the Nokia site but I guess they know which IMEI codes have been sold through P4U so it rejected mine.

Ah, I thought as much! I've no idea when my plate will turn up.

So how are two enjoying living in the future? :D

Also, did anyone go to that deadmau5 thing this evening? I entered the competition, got my name added to the guestlist... then couldn't be arsed to go.

@Ror1984 Although it's a needless accessory to be honest I'm really enjoying just dropping the phone and see it charging instantly. The only thing is once you've used it you want more of them to drop in other corners of your house :D
The phone is very warm/hot when you pick it up but that doesn't last, really nice little thing. I'm hoping for some promotion around Xmas so I can pick up another one.

TVCatchup has been released for Windows 8, shouldn't it be technically a piece of cake to port to WP8?

@Peew971 I quite like the idea of that JBL Power Up speaker, but it seems to be absurdly priced. Plus, I already have a couple of bluetooth speakers around the house, so it'd be silly to buy another one... right?

Regarding the charging plate, I have no idea if I'll even get one. When I filled out the form and hit 'submit', it loaded up a page that said "Your wireless charging plate is on its way!", but I haven't had an email or anything. I shall remain mildly sceptical until it arrives.

You would think it'd be a piece of cake to port. I hope to see a bit more overlap/interplay between the two app stores in the near future - wasn't that one of the main reasons for the switch to the NT kernel?

Speaking of app store disappointments, I don't know if anyone saw it, but there was a story on WPCentral about the absent WP7 games - 25 of them, by their count. Most of the devs had no idea their games were incompatible with the new build.

Yeah that JBL speaker is way too expensive although it looks great. I know it has charging capabilities but if I spend that much I'd rather get Sonos or Bose speakers in return.

WPCentral has a video review of the charging stand and I'm not sure it's worth the extra cash over the plate unless money isn't an issue.

The new kernel is supposed to allow for easy ports with minimal code changes , I wonder how many developers will actually bother though. Technically we should be able to expect TVCatchup before Xmas but I can't see it happening that soon.
