Registered 7 years agoI guess that's why the 8S exists. Considering it has dual core, a MicroSD slot and is very cheap, it's not too bad an option.

Registered 7 years ago8S is 4", that's about the right size for most people. Looks quite nice as well in my opinion and only costs around £225 sim free.
Look.

Registered 8 years agoI have an iphone 4 at the moment and have been due to upgrade for a few months - don't want anything bigger than that. I was sad when apple made the 5 look completely stupid (though I have got quite bored of the os and never use anything other than phone, email or maps anyway).
I get enough flipping blackberry at work so am a bit limited in my options. If the 8s is a similar size to the iphone 4 I will be delighted, it looks like a sexy little bastard. Any idea how the screen would compare to the retina one? -

Registered 7 years agoWell it's still a budget phone, so I wouldn't expect something close to Retina. Sizewise 4" is the size of the iPhone 5, so a bit larger than the iPhone 4. IPhones before 5 are freakishly small though

Registered 8 years agointerestingly the 8s has a slightly higher pixel density than the MacBook pro retina screen, so it is 'retina'
i think the iphone 4 is the best phone ever made personally, i'm just bored of them now -

Yeah, I was always happy with my iPhone 4 but looking at it now it just seems ridiculously small for some reason. Okay, that's because the 920 dwarfs it massively, but I'm loving the 920's size (I must be compensating for something).

Registered 7 years ago920 sold out in less than day at Clove and they don't know when they'll get new stock. You have to wonder how well this would be selling without that stupid EE exclusivity deal.
Back to the old plan of importing from Germany then. -

Registered 3 years ago@Peew971 It does seem particularly stupid for a company in Nokia's position. I wonder if part of the agreement was for EE to aggressively promote the phone. If so, I don't see it happening. -

Registered 11 years agoYeah and it's clear that the staff in the EE shops aren't energised about it either - the guy who served me seemed very surprised that I didn't want an iPhone 5. -

Registered 3 years agoI had a play around on the Lumia 920 in an EE store on my way home from work today.
My goodness, it really is a little big bugger! The Galaxy Note II doesn't seem to be anymore overwhelming than the Lumia 920 looks at first glance.
Can those who own a Lumia 920 comfortably text one-handed...?
I found it really troublesome to keep hold of the phone whilst texting - feels slippery and unwieldy. I know that there is an awful lot of technology under the shell, but the bezels on the top and bottom are fairly excessive.
On the other hand, the display is really quite something and I still love the whole built-out-of-one-block design. The yellow one is a lovely colour however, it is almost off puttingly glossy; finger prints galore!
Oh, and the guy in the shop approached me whilst I was clearly looking at the Windows Phone 8 models and asked if I would like to consider viewing the iPhone 5 ...
... I left very shortly after that!

Fucking hell, it hasn't got a chance has it? Bloody shame because it's a superb piece of kit and I'm definitely preferring it to the iPhone.

And one handed texting is definitely doable - it's taken a few days for me to get used to the feel of the device, but a large part of that is the specific handgrip that I'd developed to avoid cutting the signal off on my iPhone 4

Registered 3 years agoI can text one-handed more comfortably than I could on my Omnia 7, probably owing to slightly larger keys, but it's not at all uncomfortable or unwieldy, and my thumb easily reaches every key.
Also, to me the bezel at the top is fairly thin. Perhaps it helps that it's two-tone (I have the white model), so it breaks it up a bit. The lower bezel seems no bigger than it was on my Omnia 7, so it doesn't bother me at all. When I first saw images, I wished the capacitive buttons were more centred, as opposed to closer to the screen, but in use it makes sense.
The EE stores do seem particularly stupid. I went into one last Wednesday to ask about the Lumia 920, and the guy said they should be available "in a couple of weeks", and said they were delayed because they run Windows 8 and everyone was waiting for Microsoft to release Win 8. He said "When you start to see Curry's selling Windows 8 PCs, you'll see the phones arriving too."
This was November 7th. I neglected to tell him that Win 8 had been out for a week and a half, and left to go and play with the Win 8 PCs in Curry's. This particular Curry's had a Phones4U wall in-store, which had dummy models of the 820, 920 and HTC 8X. -

The thing is, the Lumia 820 is more or less identical to the 800 in terms of size albeit a little bit thinner and a fair bit wider.

... and speaking of the Lumia 820, I have finally ordered one and shall be collecting it in Carphone Warehouse on Friday morning, hooray!
I had another play around with the Lumia 920 in EE after work today and I just personally find it unwieldy and not very one-handed friendly (oh la la), but I am pleased everyone else likes it! -

Registered 3 years agoI don't tend to use a lot of apps, as most of the ones I'd get use out of would just be replicating web content, and the browser is more than good enough for everything I need it for.
Having said that, I use SuperTube a hell of a lot for all my YouTube-y needs. -

Registered 7 years agoSo I went ahead and sold my Lumia 900, Zune HD and a handful of games to end up with something north of £400. With that it was less painful going for an unlocked 920 from Expansys and I placed my order on Wednesday night, fully paid via PayPal and opted for Special Delivery.
It's now Friday afternoon and my order is still processing, Expansys is very slow to answer when questioned about it and I have no idea when I will get this phone.
This is very frustrating, as is the whole Windows Phone 8 launch

Registered 3 years agoDid you go with the white model? I take it it was supposed to arrive today, then?
I have no experience with Expansys, but agree about the WP8 launch being frustrating. It has't really been too much different from the WP7 launch, so while it's disappointing, I'm not surprised. I went into the two Orange shops in my town the day WP7 launched; one had no idea what I was talking about, the other told me it would launch in the next two-to-three weeks. I went to the Orange store on Oxford Street the next day and got my Omnia 7.
Microsoft and the WP OEMs really need to make sure carriers are distributing information about the platform - if they're confused, customers are going to be even more so.
Hopefully it turns up soon! -

If its anything like WP7 it will remain that way and most of the features you'd expect of a normal smartphone don't ever really consistently work quite how they should.

Its a lovely zippy OS but its got a LOT of ground to make up still.
I've been fully off put by the relative poorness of WP7, not to mention the fucking over of us idiots that bought a WP7 handset.
Personally I wouldn't consider a WP again for a long, long time.
There will be people that like the OS and say there are apps there, as there were when I got mine and had the same concern. I'd argue that if you're mildly disappointed or frustrated with the OS at this stage, you'll likely remain so.
Purely my two cents. -

Registered 3 years ago@Peew971 Yeah, the staff in the EE stores seem particularly clueless - I posted above about my experience in one of their stores before I got my 920. I think Nokia have chosen the wrong partner there - they know nothing about it and they certainly aren't pushing it.
