MS seriously need to get the Sky Player/Go apps on the app store for WP and PC/Tablets.

    @addyb

Aw ... a shame those little niggles put you off however, I do not blame you!

I use my Lumia 820 a heck of a lot less now since going through the beta phase of iOS 7 on my iPad. I just find so much lacking with Windows Phone 8 that it bothers me more than it used to. I may even contemplate going back to an iPhone if the rumours of a 'low cost' iPhone is true, which I firmly believe it is.

Nokia must be really fucking annoyed that Microsoft are holding them back; all the things that are announced to be in the GRD3 update are stuff that were available on Android and iOS since day blooming one.

Still, the live tiles UI keeps me coming back. I love it.

    @CharlieStCloud

Yeah its a shame but I was more impressed with it then I expected. The UI certainly is a refreshing change and its certainly the main thing I'd miss.
Sounds silly this but the minor niggles seem more of a big deal for me presently as I recently lost my mum so my stress levels and moods are hard to handle and little things like this can get to me more.

Like I said though I will certainly keep my eye on WP8 progress and will more than likely get a Nokia handset next time. I had the Nokia N9 with the meego ui which really impressed me. Its a shame they canned it as quick as they launched it.

It had potential that's for sure.

God, that is still my favourite phone ... ever!

... even the website is super-duper great to this very day.

    Nokia N9

p.s. Sorry to hear about the recent passing of your Mother, addyb.

Thanks mate. Yeah over at avforums (where I mod)
Just 2 of us had the N9 that posted anyway so it was a lonely thread. Lol.

I did like the handset and the OS. Its a real shame they didn't continue it but I get that they were in a dire situation then and can't blame them for jumping into bed with MS. In an ideal world they would be banging out handsets with both OS's on.

I've got similar praise for webOS. I thought that was a nice experience on the pre 2 I had. The handset was a bit cramped when using the physical keypad but the multi tasking was great on it and it had nice clean menus etc. It just needed a better app store and some more customisation.

Good to see another N9 fan here though :)

Wow, MS buying Nokia for 7bn dollars. Well, the phone devices division at least anyway. Hopefully, now we'll get quicker updates and better features!!

Not too surprising, I suppose. A bit sad though.

It makes all kinds of sense. Basically they're just making "NOKIA is the unofficial Official Windows Phone" an official thing rather than unofficial.

I had some hopes that Nokia would make an Android phone but that would just have put them in the same pond as a madly competitive (yet incompetent) Samsung and experienced and competent companies such as LG, SONY(ericsson) and Motorola.

This is better for Windows Phone as a platform. Hopefully it will make Google back Motorola officially

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Yeah I am a big fan.

My 720 has the best battery life I have had on smart phone.

    Very happy.

It seems that people lack the foresight that Microsoft buying Nokia shall not only limit their options, but to restrict them to one OS which isn't exactly setting the world alight, nor being updated very frequently.

... this is judging by the negative ratings I appear to be amassing within the article on the front page.

Well, I shouldn't really care ... but I kind of DO!

Feels like I have insulted all six of Microsoft shareholders or something.

Different breed on the main page. I got a neg for asking if Fifa was fun with more than 4 people playing with 1 screen.

They really need more apps on windows phone.

The ones we do have are buggy or that might be due to the notification issues. I'm starting to get fed up and I've only had it 6 months.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

What they need to do is get a move on with the Lumia 1520. I was all set for a 1020, until I heard there was a 6" handset on the way. Now if only I can control my shiny sense and resist the urge to upgrade to the first new handset to come along, then I should be ok.

They need to sort out the pricing as well.

Fifa 13 for example is apparently free on Ipone and has commentary and online play.

Any sites dedicated to letting people know when the Windows store has special offers on?

I had one of the first wage of windows phones. I now have an IPhone. The app strore just feels so much more vibrant on iOS. Always new stuff.

I like Nokia as a company. I've always loved their phones (3310) but I just can't see this being a success. Microsoft are just too shit at making products.

Caved in and have just preordered a Lumia 1020. I think it was the free accessory pack that clinched the deal for me.

    Handset cost 69

Tariff: The One Plan 38 per month.

    2000 minutes
    5000 texts
    5000 3 to 3 minutes
    Unlimited internet with tethering.

I won't use anywhere near that amount of minutes, but I absolutely cane the unlimited internet. I could have got a cheaper package with less minutes but still unlimited data, but felt it was worth the extra few pounds for tethering. Free upgrade to 4g when it rolls out as well.

Nice! Phones from Three are unlocked as well, aren't they? I was looking at the 1020 mainly for the pre-order accessory gubbins too but have been restraining myself from pressing any order button!

@Mageme Unfortunately not. I think the last time I needed a phone unlocked it cost 15.

I have a system to deal with that. I arranged it so that Mrs Hermits contract expires roughly one year after mine does. She has no interest in phones, so I get a new handset every year and she gets my old one. Although I might sell the 8x, can get about 100 for it online, and she's perfectly happy with the Lumia 800.
