My push notifications are generally inconsistent, but if I'm in a poor signal area when I'm supposed to get one they sometimes don't turn up for days. There doesn't seem to be a "back in WiFi, check for notifications" logic.

When are they actually going to update the OS?

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Hi, this is probably really obvious but sometimes I get an icon with 3 wavy lines on my lock screen. What does it mean?

I only got my phone a few days ago and the documents are all in Chinese :(

I believe there is one 'later this year' (early November, me thinks) however, the BIG update is scheduled for 'Q1 2014', which means between January and March.

    Yeah, it sucks.

... even Nokia are peeved with Microsoft for taking so long for what amounts to 'little effort'.

I love the whole UI, but fuck me ... something as simple as rotation lock or universal volume control or notifications working all the time, not when it feels like it, flabbergast me.

p.s. AlphaJax, WhatsApp, Words with Friends and Skype (upon a missed call) do not register a notification icon in the top right hand corner. They used to, but not anymore, even after deleting said app and giving it a fresh install. Nope! How annoying!

    *sighs*

    @twelveways

    Vibrate only, I believe.

... click your volume up once and the 'wavey' icon should appear. Now, tap it and the 'ring+vibrate' along with a picture of a bell within a circle shall appear.

Think of it as a quick way to silence the phone when you are having a meeting or whilst you are in the cinema. I find it quite useful at the best of times.

Isn't GDR2 currently rolling out..? I haven't been paying all that much attention to updates tbh.

That's my annoyance with this OS. So nearly pissing on everything else apart from some stupid little bugs.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

    How funny!

My brother has a Nexus 4 and his girlfriend has a HTC 8X (also blue!) and they both like their phones in different ways.

... wonder how you'll get on with your new phone which, at a shy under 170, is a bit of a bargain me thinks.
Yeah I love my Nexus 4. Really had no intention of buying a windows phone just yet. I nearly bought a lumia 920 when they first arrived but in the end stuck with Android and got myself an N4. At 170 though I couldn't pass that up. I'll give it a whirl and see how I get on.

Its the only mobile os I havent tried.

Looking forward to messing around with Nokia Pro Cam whenever the Amber update turns up. Not that I don't get good shots as-is on auto.

Also, Rich Recording really is pretty special. I posted this back in March:

I have a couple more live music samples from my Lumia 920 if anyone's interested. I went to the Jager gig last night and caught some video of Gojira and Ghost. For some reason, Youtube's squashed them down to 480p and won't let me select a higher resolution - the raw files look a shitlot better. But the audio is still impressive, even more so than the last few vids I linked, as this was a proper gig at Brixton Academy.

Anyway, check them out if you're interested.

    Ghost

    Gojira

EDIT - higher resolutions are now selectable :S Make sure to bump it up.

ffs. Downloaded update on my HTC 8Sthingy. 600mb free on internal storage.

Every damn time, it gets to about 95% then says 'you need 175mb free'. Is this update approaching 1GB?!

Got my 8X yesterday. So far so good. Im not a massive app user but everything i used on my Nexus 4 is available. I love the OS. Simple and clean.

Im sure i will discover some bugs/annoyances myself but first impressions are positive. I love Android and iOS but just get bored easily. WP8 is making a refreshing change.

I believe you gotta pay for it, if the app is indeed the same one as I have on my iPad that is.

... can you not use 3G and listen on the BBC website?

    ... really?

I swear I paid for it, although this was when the iPad 2 was available, a shy over two years ago.

Anyways, the big huge update in early 2014 will eventually allow our phones to do this:

I would really like to have two home pages so that I can separate my apps.

Baihu,Can't you just use the BBC radio app?

Hm... unlocked Lumia 820 for 179 squid. I know I shouldn't even be looking at that and saving for a 1020 but the inner impulse geek in me says 'hmm, new, shiny, shiny'.

Damn, brought the 720 for 215 last week.

Not too upset though, the battery life is actually pretty decent compared to my previous 800 and 710 and I slightly prefer the design.

However that is a great deal!

I wish Sky and the economist would pull their fingers out of their arses and provided their apps on windows phone.

The economist even has a Windows 8 metro app! How fucking hard would it be to convert that to Windows phone 8?!

    Come and get it cumslingers!

I saw a 1020 in the wild yesterday and I must say that it looked surprisingly lithe.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Sent my 8x back to Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised with WP8 but a few niggles meant I couldn't live with it long term. The notifications setup is lacking, universal volume was a bit of a pain and posting on some forums was a bit of a made with text not appearing properly and trying to get the cursor back in the right spot didn't work as fluid as I'm used to.

Minor niggles to some but it was enough to annoy me.

That being said I did like the interface and changing colours on the fly was pretty cool. So I'm glad I tried it and would certainly try it again in the future. For now though I'm back to Android.
