    The first WP8 has been revealed and it's a Samsung. The Ativ S is essentially a (imo better looking) GSIII running Windows Phone 8.

    Also Nokia and Microsoft are holding an event next Wednesday (Sept 5th) to reveal all about the OS.

    The Nokia teaser makes some believe they could be launching the awaited PureView Windows Phone.

    If Nokia do release a PureView Windows 8 phone then it'll be a pretty much guaranteed purchase from me. No doubt.

    Happy with my WP7 for now but will be exciting to see the platform take off finally and get better app support.

    Nokia have been ace, will be looking their way for my WP8 upgrade.

    I've been stupidly impressed by Nokia's windows phones and the OS. Looks like they're guaranteed more support now Win8 is around the corner, which can only be a good thing.

    Samsung meh.

    I really really really need to upgrade to a smart phone. I'm on an ancient SonyEricsson running the worst version of their home made java sit fuck of an interface.

    I was going to go with the herd and by an iPhone but a few things have made me rethink that.
    What I wonder is if WP8 has turn by turn navigation. Anyone know?

    If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

    Nokia phones do for sure. I don't know about the others.

    I keep avoiding WP cause I always feel it's just 1 step behind Android and iOS. I really hope that WP8 brings it up to the mark. I love the metro design.

    Yeah, the Nokia Drive app does for sure because I use it often, but I don't know if it's available on other win phones.

    Bing Maps on WP7 has that functionality too.

    Ah glad you mentioned Bing.

    I was half considering getting a windows phone one day, then i remembered i hate bing, and i don't want to reintegrate myself with hotmail again.

    You don't have to use bing and I haven't had a hotmail account for 15 years.

    In fact, I don't think hotmail even really exists any more. I sign in with my gmail account.

    I'm pretty sure you can use google and gmail on windows phone...

    It's interesting that Samsung are the first to announce a WP8 device and not Nokia.

    Maybe the battle with apple is making samsung swing towards WP instead of android. Although I thought Samsung annouced some kind of strategic partnership with MS last year as well didn't they?

    I forgot that Nokia had a turn by turn thing some years ago. Good news.

    The main thing I'm after is calendar entries on the first screen. I know Apple has bolted this onto their frankensteinian iOS but yeah... frankenphone.

    I really like the whole Live tile thing.

    Yeah, it's got a live calander. You can pin or unpin whatever you want to the home screen.

    On my laptop which i installed windows 8 on, i can use a gmail account with the apps, but i dont seem to be able to access any of the apps (messaging, store, calendar) unless i sign in with my hotmail account first, which then becomes the default account for everything, and in most cases you can't remove it after you install your gmail account.

    its a small thing i suppose.

    I created a live account with my gmail address years ago, you should probably think about doing the same thing.

    What's the integration between WP8 and win8/RT like?

    If you develop an app for Windows 8 metro format will it work on RT and WP8?

    Just wondering what the marketplace situation will look like in the near future.

    If they're integrated then I assume the marketplace will explode.

    All I know is what they say in this article.
    apps that work on Windows phones will also work on desktop PCs and tablets

    It uses my google calander, email, folders, contacts and so on in the native apps.

    Turn by Turn is coming to WP8 at OS level, that was announced in their June summit.

    Really looking forward to the new WP8 handsets. Love my Lumia 800, but would really like something with a bigger screen. Can't wait until Nokia announce my new phone next month.
