    To follow up, they sent it in the post the next day.

    I needed to send my birth cert because I lost my old passport.
    They explain it in the booklet that accompanies the form. Your passport is sent recorded delivery and your birth certificate is sent separately by second class post as part of the (fucking expensive) fee.
    You can choose to pay extra to have everything sent special delivery but I think they still separate it.

    Bump! Anyone able to help me;

    I'm filling in a passport application form and I'm not sure what to put. I've changed address but also my passport is in tatters. Do I ask for a change of address or a replacement?

    Cheers!

    Define tatters. So long as it doesn't look tampered with it should be okay as they check the authenticity but looking at your photo page under a UV scanner (the newer passports look fucking awesome under UV btw).

    I've been using it to get into clubs/ pubs for 6 years. The laminate is peeling away from my photo and the photo is in several bits (can just make out it's me). The pages are all bent too (they won't even serve me for alcohol with it anymore which is a bugger as I'm 27!)

    I'd give it up as lost. Start again and grow a beard.
    This may help you get served alcohol.

    @PinkSpider from the description I would advise getting a new one. If they won't even take it for ID I wouldn't want to be relying on it to get into a country!

    I'd go for a brand new one but the options are 'First British Passport' (It's not my first) or 'Renewal' (it's not expired) (or changes to details/ replacement) so I'm not really sure. The old one's definitely a write off.

    You'll have to get a renewal. Fill out the form, take your old passport and your birth cert to a large post office and get them to sort it for you.

    Agreed. They'll just start the new one from application date.

    Cheers all! Went to the post office in the end. The guy just told me to get a renewal. Apparently the address doesn't matter that much and it's just for sending the passport back (and possibly doing checks I'd assume).

    My boss at work is currently trying to get his ukrainian girlfriend a UK passport.. does that qualify for this thread!? Personally i asked if he upgraded to the 'superior' model.. it didn't go down well. :)
