    It's really not that bad.

I don't use the added functions, I have a smart tv and tablet, why turn the bloated wheezing 360 Elite on?

Recently I've changed the settings to Run disc on start up. Turn the machine on when I enter the room, quick potter, change channel and Pow! It's like 1995.

    It slows everything else down.

It isn't free is it? Nearly all the additional stuff is gold only isn't it? Maybe I'm mistaken. Obviously it is great but just a shame everything takes ages.
On the old system your friends would pop up straight away. Now if you immediately goto your friends list bit it takes an age to load in the avatars etc.
At least the newest update has put games more to the front again and with clearer links to indie etc.

    Ooooh. Didn't realise.

Yeah, I'd drop that functionality for faster menu cycling then too. Hadn't thought that it caused that.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Is this what's crippled my dash? In recent weeks I've noticed that often (more often than not) when I turn on the machine it will get stuck at some point during the sign in phase. Sometimes I have to select a profile (have one Live profile and a couple of local ones), sometimes not, but then it will just hang with a silver background and spinning icon.

It's not completely locked: if I press the guide button I can access all features via that, including playing the game in the drive. If I then exit the game, the dash is working fine.

Might try a cache clear, actually. Is that still a thing? Haven't tried for months.

Yeah, it's the time taken to load stuff online that drags the dash. I can boot up the 360 without my wifi adapter in place and BAM, everything is pretty much immediately there.

Lie with passion and be forever damned...

That's not even close to being true. Unless you're talking the very first dash, with the blades - and even then I'd say it's only possibly slightly true.

But, yeah, I think we're all forgetting how slow the previous dashboards have been.

And still, somehow, I continue to function despite the horrors the 360 forces on us.

Once I had to click twice to find something and it took 8 seconds before it loaded.

Another time it took 9 seconds.

    Wow some truely awesome sarcasm.
It is slow for a console. It is a dedicate op system designed just for the Xbox, should be swift.
Before all the updates I can never remember waiting for videos to show, friends to show, game list etc and the boot up time at the start is worse than windows.

    We're kidding! Well, I am... :p

Like I said, though, depends which dash you're talking about. The last few have been slow as shit - ESPECIALLY the Friends list.

I think the new dash might actually be faster in that regard, tbh. There are less avatars to load.

Windows on my laptop takes 1m 47 seconds to boot.

The XBOX 360 dashboard just loaded in 11 seconds.

On that basis, I'm not complaining.

Yeah, longer to load than Windows?

If we're being sarcastic then your exaggerations are just as bad!

Maybe it is my Xbox? My windows quick n Xbox well over minute.

Could be. My XBOX doesn't take a fraction of the time my PC does to boot.

Of course, my PC is also old and incredibly slow in itself. But even on its best day the 360 easily outmatched it.

Try booting it w/o being connected to the internet. If it's still really slow then you might have a problem.

Over a minute? Either you're exagerrating or your Xbox is kaput.

Mine does everything in a second or so - logging in varies between, ooo, 2 and 5 seconds.

My xbox takes about 15 seconds to start up.

My dick takes about 5 seconds in front of porn.

    My dick wins.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

tbh I found ie on the xbox to be much better than the ps3 browser.

Must be my Xbox. It loads the Xbox symbol then goes to white screen with loading symbol for thirty ish seconds then the dash comes up but things like friends takes another thirty ish seconds. Di'd consider my internet connection but hd videos load instantly with no buffing.
  • Deleted user 14 December 2012 10:55:40
My 360 is so incredibly slow to do anything I barely turn it on anymore. Really does take over a minute just to get to the dash. If I'm not just booting a game from disc and have to navigate about it's like treacle.
  • Deleted user 14 December 2012 10:56:13
Actually the same story as Pepsipop.

It is your internet connection. Turn it on without the Ethernet cable/Wifi adapter.

    See how long it takes.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

In my case it's not the internet connection although removing the cable will fix the friends list issue in another way.
