So, seeing as my Kinect stopped working during the beta, should I press support to replace it?

Got SmartGlass for Windows Phone today and it's really sweet, a lot easier to use than kinect. IE in particular is actually very useable with SmartGlass. I like how it feeds you information and options when consuming media on Xbox Music/video (and some other apps I guess). Great stuff really and pretty smart of Microsoft to release it on iOS and Android.

Why can't you use your voice to say letters to type into the IE browser... I almost got excited about it. Almost.

IE is a laggy piece of shit though on the 360. Overall the dashboard looks better, like they've sorted out the black levels.

I even played 5 minutes of happy wars... didn't leave me happy though.

I wonder if you can use Smartglass to watch youtube or whatever on your Xbox 360 by using the streaming feature. Seems like it should work. No Gold sub required :D

You mean starting a youtube video on smartglass and send it to the console? I don't think it would work without gold though as both IE and youtube require it.

I was thinking it just streamed whatever was happening on one device to another, not mirroring apps which it does do but I thought videos and pictures etc. would be basically seamless, just a stream controlled by the master device, not relying on compatible apps that may or may not be there on other devices.

Got the update. I like it. Seems a much richer experience now. The Xbox is no longer just a games a console. It's a full-fledged multimedia box.

And the people moaning about the ads need to put a sock in it already. It's mostly self-reporting of its own wares, no different to what iTunes does. So long as I'm not forced to click into/watch anything, I couldn't care less.

In the next update/Xbox though, I'd like to see a bit more Live Tile-ness - a la Windows 8 & Windows Phone 8 - in the form of a more customizable home hub, with my own pinned content - can leave the ads for the dedicated hubs. Also, a pictures/photo's hub launcher would round things out I reckon

Other than that, am liking the synchronicity between Microsoft's devices. Xbox Music being the prime example of that.

Just updated, what exactly is different? Is there a way to put puns on the main dash as otherwise it is utterly pointless? The only difference I see is it is darker and they have put more adverts on the main page. Was that really worth an update?

"The Xbox is no longer just a games a console. It's a full-fledged multimedia box."

No its not. PC's are nultimedia boxes and you can download adobe flash etc on a pc whereas you can't on the xbox, which bars a shit load of stuff from being viewed.

The youtube app does not work properly. There are resolution issues when viewing filmsd through lovefilm. (Although the update has vastly improved sound and picture quality)

The dash is full of irrelevent ads (you don't get this on PC desktop because u control it)

Its a dry run for the next gen and I dread to think what the next gen consoles will be like. More control taken away.

Its a work in progress with nothing fully fledged. Oh and I hate clicking on a movie ad to find there is no rent option. Why do they do that? With some films u can only buy? Does MS not realise that we have on demand tv packages where the same movie can be rented?

I tried IE the other day. It seems pretty usable, and is very quick.

Oh sorry: WAAAA it's shit or something.

It's officially 'alright'. I was quite surprised having used the browsers on various other not-computer things, which are all horrible.

Not bothered getting the IE app yet. Been put off by not having a either a chatpad or a wireless keyboard and manually typing in searches via the Xbox guide button has always annoyed the hell out of me.

Yeah, the text entry isn't great, but as Blerk says, it's alright as a whole.

Apart from the lack of adobe or flash support. Quite an issue really; especially when using youtube via ie (cos the youtube app is shit)

Smartglass on a tablet (ipad in my case) makes the whole thing much more functional. Using it as a keyboard for IE browsing and answering messages is great.

...but I only check the forum and read "proper" non gaming news.

Now I understand, thank you :)

It is. It is also free additional functionality.

They could have done it better, or they could have not done it at all.

Then just don't use it, surely? You'll never notice how slow it is.
