    Yes, this thing. Who's in the market for one?

    Recently my ps3 slim decided it wanted to stop reading discs and start scratching them. Of course, the warranty has expired. So instead of wasting money on a replacement blu ray drive or Sony's overpriced repair service, I'm planning on getting the cheapest version of the SS, simply switch HDD's and sell my broken slim on eBay to those seeking spare parts. That ought to cover some of the costs, at least.
    Yes, it's fugly but I much prefer a top-loading system to a slot-loading one as it's literally impossible for a top-loader to swallow and chew up discs.

    Possibly, depending on price. My launch 60gb models fans kick into full blast after a few minutes & it sounds like a hairdryer. Not an ideal gaming environment.

    Inventive use of recycled corrugated cardboard gets an eco-plus from me. Not sure about the black, water repellent paint.

    I've had no real interest in buying a PS3 previously. With a a 360 and PC, both with too many unfinished games I didn't really see much point. However, with the recent speculation about price of this and the fact that I don't have a Blu-Ray player I'd be tempted to buy one of these.

    It doesn't really look that slim.

    If it were priced right I'd be tempted, but it's too late in the gen for me to be buying another console when all reports indicate I'll be asked to buy into next, next gen in a year.

    I think it's more that it's supposed to be far less "long" than the last PS3. That had a really retarded, sort of square shape.

    A good deal slimmer then. The original looks like a behemoth in comparison. They should keep the same amount of memory and sell it cheaper, rather than what MS did, which is add more and sell it for the same price. Besides, given you can use your own HDD, there's no reason for them to have much memory at all, except to jack up the price.

    I'm still amazed at how the PS2 ended up being so tiny.

    I'm interested, though I need to wait and see what happens for a few months after launch, there may be production and reliability wrinkles to be smoothed out.

    Price is an issue also, too cheap and the parts and build quality may feel like garbage, the PS2 Slimline suffers from that to an extent, the lid covering the disc tray feels slight and trashy. But... I'm not keen to splash out too much either, I'm already £300 in the hole from the launch box that died.

    PSTwo was so cheap and flimsy. Surprisingly small. This new PS3 has that same really cheap look to it. Suppose if the price is cheap, why not. Could just get the current one when they try to clear them faster for a good price.

    My ps2 slim has been through hell and still works flawlessly. Current-gen hardware, not so much...

    It's pretty slim if you consider the fact that the power brick is inside. I know most people don't care but from a technical and heat management standpoint it's quite amazing.

    There are plenty of good games on PS3, albeit mostly on PSN, but I'm still waiting for a system seller. The Last Guardian was going to be it, but given that's still not out and is still in development hell, it's not looking good. That said, if it does come out, and turn out to still be good, I'll probably get an SS to play it.

    Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

    @mal I'm in the same boat (or was, since I did buy the system), mal. But I have a feeling The Last Guardian is going to be the ps3's majestuous swan song.

    I don't think the releases will be cut dead after The Last Guardian is finished, With the Wii U around there will be candidates for multi-platform release for a good few years yet, plus a few surprises.

    I wouldn't be shocked to see a few of the Vita exclusives get ported to pick up the slack when the likes of Capcom bail on the current generation, Gravity Rush really needs to come back to the PS3, it's original platform, plus Sony may still have a game or two in the pipeline.

    Yeah, no change. It's the 3rd one i've had, the previous 2 were quiet & both got the YLOD. This one's actually lasted the longest so at least the jet powered fans are actually doing their job.
